And so the long and sure to be drawn out saga begins. Wasn't her husband the one the news said was heavily involved in the vote cheating? So why only her? MANILA, Philippines - A Pasay City court judge today ordered the arrest of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo based on the electoral sabotage case filed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Justice Secretary Leila de Lima announced in a press briefing at Malacañang that the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Jesus Mupas of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 112 has been relayed to the Pasay City police. "It (the warrant of arrest) is already with the PNP (Philippine National Police). I think they are going to the airport," De Lima said, adding that if Mrs. Arroyo fails to arrive at the airport, policemen will serve the warrant at the hospital. Link Gloria Arroyo under arrest The warrant was served inside her room at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig City where she is confined.

In spite of her medical issues, in which she arrived in style at Manila airport with an elaborate neck brace, shewas refused boarding pass on any airlines they had multiple reservations on that day of "escape". It was ashameful OA (over acting) for a typical Filipino to "have pity on me". This link from Philippine Daily Inquireris an editorial about "Flight is a sign of guilt": http://opinion.inquirer.net/17481/flight-is-a-sign-of-guilt. And now (finally) Arroyo and hopefully her husband have been served an arrest warrant. Karma is servedwith a vengeance. Remember, she sponsored former Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr with arms andmoney in return for a guaranteed votes in her presidential campaign. Ampatuan and his private goons madeheadlines around the world for the most heinous crimes they committed on unarmed civilians and journalists. She's done.......

Seems to be typical of those charged with crimes, all of a sudden they have medical issues and have to stay in a hospital or like Estrada in his private home because his knees were soooooo bad, yet as soon as his charges were cleared, he was out wondering around and then running around while running for president. I am sure psychology plays a part because everyone is down when the weight of the world in on their shoulders.

Also interesting quote in there that would apply to many who have committed a crime. I have no idea if they are guilty or innocent and Philippine politics is none of my business, but it had been my past experience that guilty people run much more often than innocent people do, and of those that are innocent that run, usually do so because they fear for their lives by those they might take down with them when they go down. Wouldn't it be nice if they could just do the trial quickly instead of a long drawn out trial of I think 6 years like President Estrada had to endure. I know I would never wish to be president of any country with all that they must go though.

Why were they in a panic to leave? Because they know they are guilty? Innocent people would want to prove their innocence before a court of law. Why don’t the Arroyos do that instead of escaping? Remember, flight is a sign of guilt.

This makes me wonder and I am asking if anybody can tell me. Since the time time or Marcos has there been a President of the Philippines that has not faced corruptions charges after he/she left office or was voted out? It seem that the norm is for the President to obtain as much as possible while they can because they are going to need it after they get out of office.

Hey Garpo, Without checking for references, I would think that Fidel Ramos may have retired from office fairly clean. His scholastic and military background was graduating from US West Point Academy. Jake

Here is more to back up what I wrote above. Seems he is already preparing so he will be held in a hospital instead of a jail. Who can blame them, I would rather be in a hospital that a jail also. Abalos hospitalized on learning he, too, faced electoral sabotage charges Mayor Abalos said Abalos Sr. had gone straight to the hospital following a visit to the Supreme Court on Friday. He said his father had undergone some tests and “did not stay long.”

With the billions they plundered from the national treasury, bribes and kickbacks -- they can easily affordlong term stay at a 6 star hospital. Lions to lambs and now over acting with self pity.....typical. Jake
