To me the harder one makes it for people to just drop in, the better.

I would have gone more distance if I had a choice, but we do live in a condo, so no Filipino can just drop in on us and get past the guards without us coming down to get them, so yes it is working for us and also because most are intimidated by having to go up in an elevator and are usually afraid of heights, so the higher up the better. lol If a person is going to live in a house, then I would recommend a gated community, otherwise a condo where in either, a person needs permission to visit. I guess I should add that some families are wonderful and while our family hardly ever bothers us, I like my privacy. Art2ro Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Here's what I planned long ago! When my wife got her U.S. Citizenship, I did all the immigration paperwork to get both her parents and youngest sister to the U.S. from the Philippines! After a few months, they all found jobs, became independent! Now both her parents are retired in the U.S drawing Social Security benefits and have Medicare from working enough years in the U.S. and my wife and I are both retired here in the Philippines and her youngest sister is still working even with the recession! No, they have no plans in retiring here in the Philippines, because they have everything they need in the U.S.! Anyway, we visit them every other year on our vacation. So, how do you like that for "how far away from family is far enough"?
