mogo51 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 On another forum, the issue of increased drug problems in Dumaguete was suggested. I know there are many members here living in Dumaguete and would like to get their views on this subject.
jpbago Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 The drug problem is mainly shabu and it is everywhere, not just in the PI but world wide. It is very easy to make, very inexpensive, and addicting.
sonjack2847 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I seem to remember JP telling me that they are getting extra customs officials at the port to try to stop the flow from Manila. There is also a small drug(narcotic) problem here in Dalaguete.
Popular Post DavidK Posted January 28, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 28, 2016 The drug problem is prevalent right across the Philippines and until the majority of people are properly educated and gainfully employed it will remain a major problem. In my opinion our American friends provided the perfect example of why prohibiting drugs doesn't work and the only solution. Sadly the world seems blind to this and will not follow this logical step. I also understand why many will disagree with me, it's an emotive subject but just "Banning" something people want doesn't often work.
Dave Hounddriver Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 just "Banning" something people want doesn't often work. How about making it legal in some areas and not others? For example they could make it legal to grow, sell and use any kind of drug you want if you live on the Spratley Islands but not on any of the other islands. Do you think anyone would move there?

Make it a one way trip like a roach motel sticky trap? They can get in but they can't leave?

Back in the day, the official US policy was to go hard on drugs but in Alaska it was perfectly acceptable to possess a little weed. Not sure how many moved to Alaska to take advantage of that but if it was better publicized they might have.
mogo51 Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 We have some very quick witted guys on this forum, it is never boring. I raised the issue due to a blog by an Aussie guy living in Dumaguete who obviously is a very unhappy person. There is a large 'meth' problem right across Australia and they are calling it an epidemic. throughout a lot of my working career I had cause to be in contact with drug offenders and meth is worse than the ones that were around in my time. But funnily enough I found that it had little impact on my private life as I was not involved in taking the crap. So my life went on normally but sadly not so, for those that chose to get involved in it! The question of how to deal with the drug trade has been discussed for many years. I agree the punitive way for those on the wrong end of the 'pyramid' did not work. The focus needs to be on the 'pointy' end. Thank you all for your feedback. I value the common sense shown on this forum and am happy that the blog was from a very unhappy and indeed aggressive type of poster.
