Mr Lee Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Alan Purisima yesterday ordered an intensified intelligence gathering in Metro Manila to determine any threat against Americans by foreign and local terrorists. Purisima issued the directive to the five police districts in Metro Manila following a travel alert issued by the US on possible attacks by al-Qaeda terrorists to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. In its Sept. 2 alert, the US State Department warned against the “continued threat” by al-Qaeda against US citizens abroad.“While we have not identified any specific threats from al-Qaeda affiliates and allies to attack the United States or our interests on the 9/11 anniversary, US citizens should be aware that al-Qaeda affiliates and allies have demonstrated the intent and capability to carry out attacks against the United States and our interests around the world,” the State Department said. It added that in the past, terrorist organizations “have on occasion planned their attacks to coincide with significant dates on the calendar.”The alert level would not be raised but the police would maintain vigilance in areas where Americans reside or converge in Metro Manila, Purisima said.Purisima said there are no intelligence reports indicating al-Qaeda operatives are in Metro Manila. But he acknowledged the al-Qaeda have allies in the Abu Sayyaf who are on the run in Mindanao evading military pursuit operations. “I’m assuring our American friends that there’s no need to panic,” Purisima said. “They should continue exercising their daily routine like going to malls and other places of convergence as we have ample police deployment to secure them.”
Garpo Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 (edited) Al-Qaeda has a easy job here in the Philippines. They only have to sit back and let the locals kill the foreigners of countries they have declared war upon. Seems like almost everyday you read about another foreigner being killed. I have been here over a year and have yet to see or hear of anybody being arrested for the murder of a foreigner so I guess it is kind of like an open season on us. We have no rights here, can't have a gun to defend ourselves, can be deported for a minor offense. It is no wonder why so many are leaving or giving the idea of leaving some very serious thought.
