Different areas of the Philippines will have different costs on electric, as well as on many other items. Below are some threads with some cost comparisons that you might find interesting. As for electric, we pay about 10 cents per kw hour in Florida, US and if I remember correctly (maybe someone will correct me if I am wrong) about 12 pesos per KW hour in Cebu. http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?showtopic=8565&view=findpost&p=40441http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?showtopic=9121&view=findpost&p=43298http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?showtopic=6943&view=findpost&p=32529http://philippines-expats.com/index.php?showtopic=5317&view=findpost&p=24666

I've read and heard that many times (mostly on forums). My last month's electric was 3800 which is way high for an apt but that was running aircon almost constantly <that has been changed>. That translates to about $88. My electric bill in Florida during the worst of summer months was about double that. That's comparing an apt with a house but it was a small house - 1400 sq ft. Does anyone have any real data to support that it's more expensive then US, etc?

As I wrote in my above post, I thought I paid about 10 cents per KWH in Florida, but I will make it exact to be fair and because I just l worked it out to the penny, in June (the last month I actually have a real bill for, because we autopay) we paid $106.31 for 969 kwh which works out to .109711 which is actually about 11 cents per kwh, so I was off by a penny, so please look at your bill and divide the total with the KWH's and let us know what you are paying per?

There's just a lot of variables and not too many answers will be alike but close in the ball park with average use of air conditioning. It all depends on habit of use, location where one lives, what's the area size of the room, what materials were used to build the home? Your typical Filipino home are usually built out of cement hollow blocks with no insulation in the attic and galvanized corrugated tin for a roof with thin wood plywood ceilings! Upscale homes nowadays are being built by a lot of reputable developers using prefab wall construction with U.S. standards and materials for better energy savings! Our home is built that way, but I'm spoiled and have our A/C running 24/7! So don't ask what our Meralco electricity bill is every month, but then again some of our neighbors are even higher than ours! I like the winter months in Philippines, because that's when I sometimes can do without A/C at night with just the windows open, we do have screens on all of our windows to keep the flying insects out!

Unfortunately, I guess I disposed of the bill. It's not in my name anyway, I just pay it. Maybe somebody else has VECO k/w rates? Art has a good point, a lot depends on insulation, I sealed the windows and doors about a month ago and, hopefully, that will make a difference. It was pretty bad before, gaps everywhere.

Ok! Here you go! We live in Northern Central Luzon in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. My Meralco bill for August was P7,410.60 for 623 kwh consumed just in our master bedroom which is 12' x 20' and using a wall mounted 1 HP A/C and a 1 HP split type A/C as our backup which was our 9 yr old A/C I just had repaired! Our 2 HP split type down stairs we hardly ever use useless we have to during the summer when ever we have visitors! Comes out to P11.90 per kwh and that includes all of the other charges below that I don't know what they are for except for the Government Tax.P3,358.09 Base price generation 45.3%P 634.71 Transmission 8.6% P 398.10 System Loss 5.4%P2,203.50 Distribution 29.7%P 90.42 Subsidies 1.2%P 695.91 Government Tax 9.4%P 29.84 Universal Charges 0.4%P7,410.60 Total ($170.00 for the month of August) I guess that ain't too bad 24/7, but wait til the summer months! 623 kwh consumed = P11.90 per kilo watt hour.
