Laptop Purchase In Cebu

Can anyone advise me the best place to purchase a laptop in Cebu City? My niece is in her second year of college and in need of a laptop computer. I had planned to send one along with a friend this December but he has canceled his trip. I am really concerned about shipping a computer because a friend had one removed from a B Box last year. So now I am thinking it may be just easier to send her the money to buy the computer in Cebu. Any ideas where she should look for the best price and service for a new laptop? I was hoping she could keep the budget arrant $700 usd. A relative in Cebu suggested Robinsons Mall. But I would like to hear any other ideas.danny

I cannot give you a specific store that might have the best prices but I would shop at the large section devoted to computers and phones on the third floor across from VECO since there are many computer stores there and I saw some pretty good prices in many of them. Then there is also the computer section of Ayala Mall which I believe was also on the third floor in their own wing and had I believe 4 computer stores, and the prices seemed reasonable to me there as well. Of course the prices we pay in the US are usually better but the prices in Cebu were getting closer the last time we were there in May. Here is some listed on PC Express website to give you an idea of prices.

Good morning Danny, It's too bad that your friend had a laptop stolen from his BB box. There are some really good dealsfrom Amazon and NewEgg.com these days, especially during the upcoming holiday specials. Kuya Lee as always, has provided you with first hand knowledge regarding the best deals in town. One thing I'm concern with is the OS installed in the computer. How can one verify it's not a piratedcopy with hidden virus like trojans and keylogging? Warm regards to you and your family, Danny -- respectfully, Jake

Thanks Lee,I will advise her to check those places when she arrives in the city. I think this will save her some time for just looking for a place to shop!If it were me, I would be shopping for a few days for the best deal,....if I were there. But as Jake said, there are some really good deals here in the US now. But like I said, having a new laptop and also new clothing and shoes taken from my friends box, I am somewhat concerned about shipping and maybe loosing a new laptop. We are not sure if it was taken by a thief or Customs. Or maybe the one in the same!danny

Reliable stores sell new legal items you can trust, and that was why I suggested the ones in those malls. Yet even here in the US there can be a crooked salesperson, so it might happen even in a trusted store there, but would be unlikely since they have a reputation to uphold. You are welcome Danny. It is my pleasure to help members/friends the best I can.

I bought my HP desktop with Vista OS and 20" LCD monitor and my Dell 8" mini-laptop with XP OS at an Abenson store here in Sta Rosa, Laguna and I'm sure they have Abenson stores nation wide including Cebu! It's been 3 years now and both are still working like a charm! I clean my hard drive using Advanced Windows System Care 4 weekly and use Avast as my Anti-vius. Works great and they're free sharewares!

I suggest you keep it simple and get an Atom Netbook down on Colon last I checked they was selling for 12500 pesos and allow access to the internet and have built in webcam and if she gets a SmartBro plug in she will be able to communicate with you for a fairly cheap rate .. She really does not need more then that,, But if you insist a laptop is going from 28,000 p basic and on up to 64,000 and more! I suggest the Netbook for its small and easy to carry or store and less obvious for people to see and want to steal.. Its what I picked up for my gf and it does the job and more ...NO MORE INTERNET CAFE and its pretty cheap internet access IF she is in the city once they get out in the province it can indeed be a problem but still sufficient access. KEEP IT SIMPLE... Warlord

A family member (filipino) just purchased a really nice ASUS laptop from CDking which can be found in almost any of the malls. I thnk she paid about $650. or 24k peso. Intel chip, 500 gig memory, 2 gig ram, windows 7, built in camera and mic and also had a bunch of extras. Might want to take a look at them before making a final decision. I am in the US right now and would have been happy to take one back for you when I fly make in two days. I priced the same laptop here in the US at Best Buy and it was about $100. cheaper.
