Foreigners May Own Firearms While In The Philippines

If the above bill passes, and I have my doubts it ever will, but if it does, I wonder what will happen when a foreigner shoots a Filipino citizen? Even with myself being very pro gun, I doubt I would want a carry permit in the Philippines, but if this law passes and statistics are listed in the news of how many foreigners have permits, I would imagine that it will become safer for us all, since them not knowing which of us is armed and which of us is not, might make criminals think twice before taking one of us on. Lacson bill eases rules for foreigners to own a gun Foreigners may own firearms while in the Philippines under the firearms and ammunition regulation bill filed by Senator Panfilo Lacson. His Senate bill 2993 eases the rules on gun ownership for foreigners employed by a corporation either as president, vice-president, treasurer or board secretary when authorized by a board resolution and posseses all qualifications required of the citizen applying for a license to posses firearms.

As I read it. It looks to me that it really would not give many of us the chance to own a gun. I don't think many of us are major players in any Philippine company or work as a doctor, lawyer, banker, etc. etc. etc. While my wife can have a gun in the house, I still have to figure out a way to have her shoot a criminal and it not be me. I asked this question before and never got any answer but, has any ever seen or heard where a foreigner was able to defend themselves with the use of a firearm in their own home? What I am asking is what would happen if your wife or girlfriend owned a gun and keep it in the same house as you lived. Somebody breaks into the house to rob and or kill you and you get the gun and shoot them first?

I do not believe I have ever read of a foreigner shooting anyone except for some FilAms that were listed in the news as Americans, so I do not know if you will ever get an answer to the question. I guess if we were to shoot someone and then rubbed hands on our wives hands, put our shirt on her and washed up very well and changed our clothing, then we might be able to get over and let her say she did it. In my case my wife has a carry permit in the US and is a pretty good shot, so if we were to get a gun while living in the Philippines, then I would not have a problem with her carrying it or using it, if necessary. I taught her how to shoot and she does head shots at 10 yards plus, so we would hopefully be safe in our home, yet that is one more reason we live high up in a condo, less chance of a surprise visitor, so we hopefully do not have that to worry about while living there. It is while out and about that I might be concerned with at times, yet I have never felt unsafe anywhere we have been within the Philippines to feel the need for a gun.

Prior to becoming a cocktail waitress at a local casino, my wife Judy took a job as armed security guard.I bought her a nice compact Glock 9mm, which was her very first time handling a weapon. She failed herfirst practical test by tagging only 31 out of 40 shots within the center mass area (passing was 37). Pissedoff with herself, she brought home the paper target and pointed her mistakes. I chit you not --- but most of her "groupings" were in the pelvic area. I immediately covered my vitals as Ifell to the ground laughing. She gives me this frown that would tag a 1000 yard head shot. She passedthe next day, after practicing her trigger pull, stance and breathing. Regarding gun permits in the Philippines, I don't think I could really relax with having a weapon at home or concealed in my vehicle. There are just too many variables that are working against you. Even if you thinkthe shooting was righteous (immediate danger to life and property), I believe the fallout would be too great.I would rather have my favorite baseball bat, a large canister of pepper spray or an attack dog. I would use deadly force in Philippines only if it would save the life of my family. The chances are any Foreigner would be held accountable for the killing regardless of the circumstances. I agree with Jake about a large dog. Our family had a German Shepherd when I took him for a walk people stopped and stared many ran the other way.
