Mr Lee Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I would not wish to be the owner because they have arrested people just for having fake guns, so real bullets and gun parts might be a real problem. From the story it seems someone moved to Cebu and thought they would ship all their personal goods, but much is not allowed and duties would be due on a lot of it, so he is screwed and quite possibly his future life in the Philippines may no longer be possible if he even used his real name, which appears to be in doubt for some reason. Customs men seize van loaded with gun parts, big bikes worth P3.5M Whoever shipped home to Cebu the van load of “personal effects” from California didn't expect it to be inspected. The Bureau of Customs yesterday opened the 40-foot container van and found gun components, ammunition and chop-chop parts of big motorbikes smuggled among household items.“Overall, the estimated amount of the seized items is P3.5 million,” said Cebu District Collector Ronnie Silvestre said. The van was consigned to a certain Renato Ramos from JP Rizal Street, Banilad, Cebu City.Customs officers said they would give him an “opportunity to be heard” even as they raised the possibility that the name could be fictitious. Firearm parts found in van -- Instead of household goods as declared, customs inspectors found in a container van that came from the United States parts of high-powered firearms such as M16 and M14 rifles, as well as six motorcycles. JJReyes Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 The Department for Homeland Security uses large x-ray machines to scan both incoming and outgoing containers. High on their list for outgoing containers are illegal shipments of guns and rifles. Authorities in the Philippines are then tipped-off. Border guards interview, from time to time, all passengers leaving on direct flights to the Philippines. They are after anyone carrying more than $10,000 in cash and cash equivalent like gold coins. It's the same for the US-Mexico border crossings. You are subject to random bag searches and removal of clothes to check for taped bundles of money. Mr Lee Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 and the plot thickens. How can the address be wrong unless it was an inside job? Consignee of seized guns does not exist Silvestre said that based on reports from Enforcement and Security Service district commander Camilo Cascolan Jr. yesterday, the supposed consignee, Renato Ramos of 1513 J. Rizal St., Cebu City, was found to be fictitious. “The name is fictitious as well as the address,” Silvestre said.

Its not unusual, could be a test shipment or perhaps was meant to be picked up before shipping out of the wharf.
