Need Type O+ Platelets Asap

Greetings: A member just posted on my forum where they need O+ Platelets as soon as possible. The information follows:

Hi, Mark here, Have a expat friend in Chong hua in room 728 He needs type O+ platelets. I already acquired the blood, just need someone to donate type O+ platelets. This is urgent as his surgery is at 7pm tonight. Please text me if you or someone you knows can help. 09176408812Thank you

Jeez, I was in Rm 1030, brings back all kinds of very bad memories. I really hope he gets it because I went through the same need of platelets. I'm O+ but can't donate. Just in case someone doesn't know this, if the hospital doesn't have the blood, it's the patient's or their families' responsibility to buy the blood from whatever source they can find it. The hospital will not help.

I remember reading a news article about people hanging around outside the hospital selling their blood for just such an occasion. An emergency is an emergency... but with no way to screen the blood for the MANY types of infections that can be passed on, it is quite a gamble. Depending on the surgery and the surgeon's training, blood / blood products may not be needed. Here in the US, there are surgeons known within the doorbell ringer's community that are very successful in minimal blood loss surgery so no blood is needed.

Just an update:

They are still in need for the platelets, He has already used 15 units of blood and four donations of platelets. He still has another five (5) operations, according to Mark.
