Mr Lee Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 (edited) The thing about accidents is that we can only control what we do, we can never control what other drivers do. A Swedish national was killed after his motorcycle was rammed from behind by another motorcycle in barangay Pooc, Sta. Fe town, northern Cebu.Peter Stevenson, who was married to a Cebuana, suffered head injuries after he was thrown off the motorcycle.Police said Stevenson was driving a Honda Wave with plate number YQ-8644 on his way home last Thursday afternoon. The foreigner was about to turn left on his way to the gate of his house when a motorcycle hit him from behind. The impact threw Stevenson to the ground. The driver of the other motorcycle, Rodulfo Alaba, was arrested after the accident. He will be charged with reckless driving resulting to homicide, said police.Stevenson was brought to the Bantayan District Hospital then transferred to the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.PO2 Pedro Lima-lima Jr. of the Sta. Fe police said Stevenson’s brother-in-law Roger Alojacin went to the police station yesterday to report that the foreigner died while being treated in the hospital./ Link Edited December 26, 2011 by Mr. Lee
Bruce Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Helmet or no helmet? I have 5 bikes in Phils, including a Wave. Here in the US, I have a Honda 125 PCX scooter style bike. Max speed is 60 mph, 55 with a head wind. Yesterday, I was out riding and doing 60 in the right lane when 3 crotch rockets passed my by doing well over 100mph. ZOOM and they were gone. Came and went so fast I never saw them coming and if I had of changed lanes, there would have been no way that I would have survived if one hit me from behind. Funny thing is that 35 years ago, before the days of crotch rockets, I had a Kawasaki 500 and I did over 100 mph between stop signs. Now that I am over 50, my perspective has done a 180! When I bought the current Honda, I intentionally bought it rather than a 'faster' bike.
Bundy Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I've said it before and i'll say it again. " There are just two types of motorcyclists in the Philippines........... those who have had an accident, and those who are going to have an accident " Whether it's your fault or not, why risk it? There are just too many looney people using the roads in RP.Ever seen a pinoy riding his bike and texting at the same time?.........................madness!R.I.P. to this poor fella. Bruce Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 (edited) My favorite is 6 on a bike including the baby on the front who is the crash test dummy / air bag to protect those behind him/her in a crash. But like it or not, a bike is a real help in daily life for most of us. Bruce Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Hey! I count 7 in the pic, including 2 crash test dummy / air bag children. And really, I have no idea where Honda et al get those stupid weight load limits! If it fits! It rides!3 hours ago I was riding the scooter to my old business and the traffic light changed. I stopped at the white stop bar (paint strip) as the law mandates, but as I stopped, I heard a horn and tires squeeling. I hit the gas and went out 20' into the (empty) intersection, THEN I look back and saw a sideways stopped SUV on the spot I had been in 1.5 sec before. I rode back in a semicircle and a woman rolled down her window and said she was sorry but she could not stop.......

A nice kick in dent would have been appropriate to remind her to get herchit together......he, he.
Bruce Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Well yes and no... here in Florida. We have a 'stand your ground' law in which 'you' can shoot someone IF you are threatened. While not that cut and dry, it is on the books and if 'you' can show that within reason, another person would have taken similar action, you can't be prosecuted or if prosecuted that is a legit defense. While I might have liked to kick her door in, if she rolled down the window and shot me (yes, Jake this is Florida and guns IN THE CAR are legal too), even though she almost killed me, I am the one who approached her car and I was the one who would have been kicking her door, thereby looking like I might be in the act of starting to remove her from her car to kill her... or so the argument would go. So I did not take any action beyond what I did. As my lawyer friend would say... 2 wrongs do not make a right, and, there is no legal way to do a wrong thing. Since I have lived in Florida for 30+ years and used to own a pawn and gun shop.... I always have a Glock 23C on my hip....... never hurts to be prepared..... And for the Kalifornia tree hugging anti gun people...... the laws actually work out well. A criminal snatches a purse in NY or CA, he has little to fear. in Florida, he actually may get shot! And that is a good thing.
