Mr Lee Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) First of all this happened only 8 days after the first of the year, so with the put off until tomorrow attitude many Filipinos seem to have, I wonder if this was more about not having a 2012 sticker only 8 days into the new year? :sign0095: Although the below story does say they had argued over the sticker months ago, but we all know the news is not always accurate.Below is a follow up, so when is it OK to insult someone, and if insulted does that give someone the right to kill someone? Seems like they are now trying to put the blame on the dead woman Rose Ann La Paz. :) Why should it even matter if she yelled and cursed at him? It seems from the below story that Rose Ann La Paz who the guard killed was married to a foreigner and possibly both had argued with the guard before over the sticker, so maybe, just maybe, they did not like being told what to do by a foreigner or someone married to one. Whatever the case, this is a terrible loss of life for no real reason. My condolences to her family, I just hope someone can be held responsible as well as the one who shot her. I hope new member usaborn can give us more first hand info. Victim may have provoked gunman with her outburst, investigator saysMonths before, Lapaz and her husband, who is a foreign national, allegedly argued withthe guards about the car sticker, which has to be renewed each year. Bruce Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Emborong is an association dues collector of the Grand Pacific Villas in Sitio Masulog, Barangay Basak. ......So what does this mean? He was not a guard per se, but some kind of 'muscle' hired as a dues collector by the association? Which means he may also get a % of what he collects, thereby raising to the next level his interest in collecting NOW instead of the woman paying at the office tomorrow. In any event, the report says most guards diod not have licenses.... which in America, substancially raises the liability in a civil suit. I am not sure how the courts view it in the Philippines.
Mike S Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Interesting to say the least ...... so at what point do you cross the line .....1) not allow her to enter and call the police ...... but then would the police respond ......2) allow her and her foreign husband to go in or out without getting the proper sticker (which I'm sure they could well afford) .....3) just ignore the whole thing and probably get fired ......4) arrange for the MILF to kidnap her husband and pay a ransom (much more expensive than the cost of the sticker)Not making light of the situation ..... but this happens daily here in the Philippines day in and day out ...... everyone knows how volatile some Filipinos can become when confronted or drunk ...... so why do it ..... do you pull on Superman's cape .... do you pee into the wind ..... than don't mess around with Jim ....... man in Calif. jumped out of his car and beat a guy to death with a hammer because he cut him off while driving ...... several weeks ago 3 guys were shot 2 blocks from our apartment because they were drunk and shouted and yelled at a motorcycle driver because they said he was making to much noise .... he turned around and shot all three of them (none were killed) ......My point is when do you draw the line ..... it is no different here in the Phils and then say in the US ..... life to some people is very cheap and you never know who might be that person that places no value on a life ..... as soon as you realize that some people act before they think you stand a much better chance of living longer ...... A very sad situation indeed ...... but everything could have been avoided if they had just bought the damn sticker .... IMHO

Who really knows except maybe someone that lives there, perhaps the fees are due every August or when ever the idea first came in to effect, nothing to say yearly renewals occur on the first of each year in fact not much is that way in my opinion. So, in America, you stop by the office and pay or dispute any bills. However in Phils... the management hires 'muscle' to collect and calls him a 'collector'? Especially if he is paid a % of the collections, he has reason to NOT want the home owners to pay at the office and he may get overly aggressive. Several mentions about the husband being a foreigner... so I wonder using foreigner logic if he will file civil cases against management and the security company. In any event. The management will pay many thousands out in legal fees than that little 300p decal was worth.....And even though it is an association, if the husband can show that management was working outside proper guidelines, then it may be possible that the association does not have to pay the legal bills to defend the management.
