Well at least they shot him in the legs and not a kill shot, and at least they only hit the American woman and did not shoot her, but there is no question in my mind that things all over the Philippines are getting worse and probably due to the world economy and anyone who actually has their eyes open should see it too. Now does that mean my wife and I will not go to the Philippines, heck no, of course we will continue to go and spend our time there but I may do less walking around with my wife than I normally do unless I am not with my wife, then I may walk around just as much because if my number is up, then so be it but I am going to do my best to take at least one of them with me and both if I get lucky.

Thousands and thousands of Filipinos recently defied all warnings to meet and escort the cross,so do we hide or stand up to terrorism or crime? We as foreigners are in small numbers but so are the risk of one of us falling victim, not saying it cant happen but my point is that if anyone starts to lead a life hidden away or has an attitude that its to scary out there then they will miss life. All the things we read about what has happened to a foreigner in the PH has and continues to happen in our own country so really what are the risks except if your silly enough to put yourself into a very well known danger zone.People get held up everyday, I cant even begin to recite just what I read in crime here in Aus today,be wary but not obsessed with everyone wants to kill me.Just my extra peso worth.

The only difference I see in our countries verses the Philippines is that we are but a few and stand out like a sore thumb, and also in our own countries most of us probably drive our own cars, so we go from our home to our car and then to wherever we are going, so we are not walking around the streets standing our like we have a sign "I am a rich foreigner" on our shirts as we do in the Philippines and I believe we spend more time walking around because many of us do not have vehicles.People can say what they want about crime comparisons between their own countries, but in our own countries we are one of many many many millions, whereas while in the Philippines we are one of a much lower number and especially when in lower density areas.

Tom we are not talking about your stomach sticking out past your belt. :mocking: :nudie:As a possible good side to all this, it seems they may have caught the robbers. Police nabbed suspected robber who victimized Italians, killed ‘carnapper’FRIDAY the 13th proved to be unlucky for a suspect in the robbery of three Italian nationals.Police arrested James “Budlat” Beliña, 25, early morning yesterday in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.Law enforcers also arrested a family and six other suspected swindlers and robbers in Cebu City.In Mandaue City, a suspected robber and carnapper was shot dead and his companion was arrested. The Sinulog celebration has brought many criminal elements to Cebu, police said.Beliña and a companion allegedly robbed Machele Loungo, 67; Michele Acanfora, 71; and Franco Palatacci, 62, all Italian nationals, last Thursday in Barangay Capitol-Site, Cebu City. The robbers took off with more than P380,000 in cash and a mobile phone. At largeBeliña allegedly shot Loungo in the leg when the Italian national attempted to resist. Loungo is recuperating in a hospital in Cebu City.Beliña’s cohort, however, is still at large.Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Melvin Ramon Buenafe told reporters that Beliña was identified by the victims.“He is also responsible for a string of shooting incidents,” he said.

Isn't it sad that we have to change our whole way of life to live in the Philippines. Doesn't that bother anyone. While in Florida my wife can wear her watch, engagement ring and wedding band, she knows better than to wear them in the Philippines because she know it would make us a target. All over the US I can wear a nice watch and diamond wedding band and even pull out a wallet full of a couple of hundred dollars and no one has even blinked or tried to rob me in all the years I have been alive, I would never do that while walking around the streets of any part of the Philippines. So having anything nice means we should not walk around the streets, isn't that a crying shame, but that is what we have to give up to live in paradise. :hystery: :) 1%20(103).gif :mocking:One time we were in Makati and I had an undercover Philippine police officer with us and another kano Filipina couple, the police officer said "sir you are crazy to walk these streets at night" and he was not at all comfortable walking with us, so I guess the streets must be very safe as some members seem to think when even the police do not feel safe walking around.

Before we get carried away lets remember that these incidents are happening to tourist visiting for the Sinulog festival in Cebu. Most who want to take photos will need a decent camera so thats why they bring them. Many of the tourist have never been to the Philippines before and are there to see the Sinulog, they dont read forums and probably have not much of an idea of the Philippines.Crime increases because of the influx of tourist and crowds, every year the pickpockets make enough in Cebu at the Sinulog to last until the Easter break. So yes, there are robberies every day but common sense tells you that its a good time to be a crim.

I don't change my way of life so that part does not bother me. What bothers me is when others come expecting this to be like their home area. If a person wants things to be like they are at home then stay at home. The other day I saw an apparently rich old (80+?) man wandering around aimlessly with a HUGE Nikon camera taking pictures of the poor people as if they were tourist attractions. If he were to get mugged I would have no sympathy. I am not one of those people who wanders around Beverly Hills taking pictures of the rich people as if they were tourist attractions. I don't go to flood area, or earthquake hit areas and gawk at the victims as if they were tourist attractions. Some do. If they get mugged I have no pity.I would not move to a wealthy area of the world and try to fit in, because I wouldn't. If people who have more money than the general population move here and want to continue to wear their gold watch or fancy jewelry then they are fools. A fool and his money are soon parted.
