I have read a great deal about S&R on another board so my curiosity was pricked to find out for myself ...... checked their website on-line but lacks a lot ......... so we're off on another great adventure ..... hold your breath ..... I'll be back ...... :hystery: :541: ....... well maybe don't hold it that long ......

Dzighnman Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 If you like Pizza, go hungry so you can fill up on some excellent pizza options they have in their little calendaria. We are members, costs 700 php per year( in 2010 anyhow) Great options for meats and liquor and the odd special shipment items. We also found some Kirkland brands (US Costco) and Sam's Club brands sprinkled randomly around the place.... have not been there in awhile due to travels so looking forward to a fresh review.

Popular Post Mike S Posted February 18, 2012 Author Popular Post Posted February 18, 2012 Friends ..... Cebuanos and countrymen lend me your ears .... ( or in this case eyes) ..As promised a report on S&R in Cebu .... I am doing this on WordPerfect just encase of a computer or forum glitch and I’m afraid it will be quite long ..... maybe I can win the long blubbering post award ......Once upon a time .... a time long ago on that other board so many of us remember fondly .... NOT ..... I did a post on where to find sugar-free products here in Cebu and some arse-hole came back on THAT board with “cookies .... who gives a damn about sugar-free cookies” ..... but as I said he is an arse-hole and being on THAT board nothing surprises me .....First off let me say that I only priced a few items as like some of you guys .... but not that much :) ...... and I only spent about 5 hours there and as I could not take pictures (forbidden) I had to write everything down ..... see I told you I liked you ....... so if the spelling of the product name is a bit off ... wing it ..... I am also going to try and do 2 columns to save Tom a little space so I hope it will come out on the transfer over to the board ...... it may not line up exactly so please bare with me ......I know you can find some of these items in other stores here in the Philippines and the prices maybe a little lower but these is what is a available under ONE roof and for one trip in one store ...... I have only included items made or sold in the US (they have a little US flag over the items price on the shelf) and the usual Philippine brands are sold there also ...... sorry guys from Oz .... nothing notable for you but I do think I saw a leg of kangaroo meat in the frozen food section :hystery: ..... (actually they do have Australian meat products there) .....OK ..... first thoughts about the store ..... extremely clean and well lighted ..... people courteous and the aircon is unbelievable unlike other warehouse stores here in the Phils it is very comfortable in any part of the store ..... you CAN go into the store without having a membership but you must be accompanied by an employee and you aren’t allowed to buy anything and that includes the delicious fresh pizza in the food court ...... membership is simple and painless ..... you fill out the application and show 2 forms of picture ID .... (they have a list on their website telling you what they will except) ... they make copies of you ID’s and take your picture and hand you your finished card (with your picture on it) back to you in about 10 minutes ..... card is like a credit card but a bit thicker ..... card can be used after 24 hrs. ..... in the meantime they give you a paper chit that you can use ..... there was not anyone else applying so there was no delay .... cost is 700p and good for 1 year ..... you can bring in 3 guests with you .... an extra card can be purchased for 400p ...... only the card holder may use the card ... your asawa can’t use your cardThere were plenty of TV’s of all brands and sizes .... no report on these nor on the aircon units .... here are just a few thinks I did check ....... not going to give the model or price on all this stuff ... sorry .... I also rounded off the price ..... 5499p becomes 5500pSpeed Queen washers both top and side load ....... American sizeBraun Combimax ....... mod. I know someone was looking to buy some tires for their car ..... didn’t go in to the tire section as it is on the way out and I was kinda tired out ...... Wine and liquor selection that I have seen anywhere ..... as I don’t drink I can’t help you as to what is rare and what ain’t or what prices are good and what ain’t ...... I know they put the ABC liquor stores to shame in Florida ......Opppps almost forgot someone asked for cornflakes ..... they do have a limited amount of cereal and for you Bruce they have Frosted flakes .... the Kellog’s regular flakes were 160p (forgot the size ... sorry) and they are made in Thailand ......OK sports fans enough for now ..... if some of you are kinda disappointed and some stuff you were looking for wasn’t mentioned I’m sorry ..... but that should give you a rough idea on what is there ..... well worth the trip and cost as far as I’m concerned .... but again ..... IMHOOHHHHH and the pizza at the food court is indeed the best I have had here in the Phils (haven’t tried Tatoosh’s yet though ...... :attention: ) ...... it is 99p a slice and I could only eat 2 ..... (yup there goes my carb intake for the month ..... :hystery: ) 45p for bottomless soda ..... they have other stuff but we didn’t try it ........... gotta go my fingers and brain just gave out :nudie:

Dave Hounddriver Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 (edited) Its a great review. :AddEmoticons04230:I have rebelled against shopping there as I know myself well enough that I would only get there once a year or so, but with the list of what is available it makes it easier for me to ask a friend to pick up 'whatever' for me when they are in the neighborhood. I wondered, after reading your review, if there was a web site for this store and I found it here. Its a darn shame they don't have prices on their web site. It would make it so much easier to decide if I wanted a friend to pick up some Cheerios (for example). Hard to say if I want them without knowing the grams and pesos. Good post and info there Mike. The US brands you listed, would they be considered good brands in the US? Friends ..... Cebuanos and countrymen lend me your ears .... ( or in this case eyes) .. Good post and info there Mike. The US brands you listed, would they be considered good brands in the US?Tom ... I would say so off hand but as some have already noted it depends on the model ...... many name brands here also make a model for the Asia countries and especially the Phils ..... the specs on these items are not as good as the ones sold ...... say back in the US ...... that is why if you try to locate a certain model number and do a Google search for it it will not show up .... or if it does it will say it is produced for the Philippines only ...... some of this is due to the voltage difference 110v vs 220v but sometimes there are other differences ..... I have found that some brands here like 3D and LG are pretty decent but then I'm not a dye in the wool USA appliance fan ...... our ref. is a Cordova ..... Philippine made ..... it had the best warranty of any ref we looked at with a 2 year guarantee on everything except the plastic parts ..... I added an additional 1 year warranty ...... it runs very quite ... uses less electricity and is a lot easier to defrost (15mins) than our old Sanyo ref of the same size ...... the new one is 2 door instead of one ..... just my thoughts ...... sorry .... tried not to go to far off topic ...... so I'll quit here .....  :hystery:
Lordblacknail Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Thank you for the great post, but one correction. Boca makes veggie meatless hamburger patties, not beef. And the ones that they sell are the original vegan, and imho, taste like old cardboard. I have asked my favorite supervisor there to get the better tasting ones. We will see.We shop there about once a month, buying the things we can't find anywhere else, such as Kirkland (Costco) toilet paper. Last time we bought the Kirkland First Cold Pressed extra Virgin Olive Oil for P700 pesos, on sale from P1000 plus. In Costco, this is two bottles for $20. Here one bottle for $20. We bought three. We like some of their veggies, and for sure it is the only place we have seen ice cream. RP ice cream's first ingrediant is water or oil, not cream. Most everything else we find at Ayala Metro.
