Dave Hounddriver Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Aliens in Philippines urged to renew IDs earlyThe Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Sunday advised foreign nationals living in the country to renew their identity cards before these expire to avoid any inconvenience should they wish to travel abroad.BI Associate Commissioner Siegfred Mison issued an advisory urging foreigners with travel plans to renew their expiring alien certificate of registration identity card (ACR I-Card) at least 30 days before the date of their intended travel. The I-Card is issued to all BI-registered foreigners who are holders of immigrant and non-immigrant visas.Mison said that aliens with pending I-Card applications would not be allowed to leave as the cards serve as their reentry and exit permits.Aliens who leave despite pending I-Card applications will have their resident visas downgraded to tourist upon their return to the Philippines, he said.Lawyer Ronaldo Ledesma, BI acting alien registration chief, said the visas of returning aliens with expired I-Cards would also be downgraded to tourist.

Art2ro Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Bob,Dave's post pertains to 13a/g type permanent alien resident visas and doesn't pertain to tourists newly entering the Philippines on a 21 day exempt visa until or prior to their 38 day visa extension's expiration date. Any tourists deciding to stay beyond the total 59 days may apply for their ACR I-card at that time and their 2 months extension intervals up to 24 months.
Tatoosh Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Very good info, at least they are being clear about the requirements. And they have always said that ACR-I cards without an expiration date have to be renewed 5 years after the date of issue.Note: When you go into the main office of the Bureau of Immigration (Intramuros - Manila) you will get hit by a lot of barkers trying to hook you up with a lawyer to notarize your paperwork for a fee. Inside the BoI office, there is a FREE notary run by government lawyers, zero charge. It is located on the ground floor under the stairway, directly behind the large seating are that is in front of the main entrance.
Dave Hounddriver Posted February 27, 2012 Author Posted February 27, 2012 The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Sunday advised I was a little shocked to see them doing anything on Sunday. I thought they all had Sunday off.

Mike S Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Well .... I'm glad you guys understand it cause I'm totally confused ..... some will be allowed to enter and some will not ...... so I guess if you get a card after your 90 days and then leave the country for 1 year and 4 months you will not be allowed to re-enter until you go back to the consulate of origin ..... well guess that is one way to cure the sex-pats ..... or will make them visit more often ..... :hystery:Is this crap applied to resident and non-resident .... and what is the bit about ....... And they have always said that ACR-I cards without an expiration date have to be renewed 5 years after the date of issue. ...... does that mean my resident ACR I card is not going to be good for 5 years .....Sorry just finished my Income Tax for 2011 ...... maybe I need a nap ...... hey Art .... move over you're hogging all the covers ......
Tatoosh Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Is your ACR-I card for the 13a visa or similar? Then the probationary card is for 1 year and subsequent permanent cards are for 5 years. Tourist cards have expiration dates, so just check that out. The permanent cards do not have an expiration date, so they expire 5 years after the date of issue. Still muddy?

Tatoosh Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Theoretically you should have. If yours has an expiration date, how long is it between the date of issue and the date of expiration?
