TheMason Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I did not know that and not one state I have ever lived in allowed that and I am still against it and I do not think miss smith was a baby. Here is a breakdown of the sexual age of consent by US state. Each US state has its own age of consent. Currently state laws set the age of consent at 16, 17 or 18. The most common age is 16 (more than half of the states have this age limit), however the five most populous states all have a higher age of consent (California-18, Texas-17, New York-17, Florida-18 and Illinois-17). age of consent 16: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia age of consent 17: Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Texas age of consent 18: Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Full details can be found on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_conse...ca#Local_laws_2The US govt. sets an age of consent for international travellers that may differ from the country you are visiting. For US citizens the age of consent is 16. If you and your partner are within 4 years of age, the age of consent can be as low as 12. So, even if the country you are in has an age of consent of 14, the US holds it's citizens to a different standard. http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htmThere is sometimes a difference between the age of sexual consent and the age at which you can legally marry. Most US states set a marriage age of 18 or 16 with parental consent. A few states allow marriage as young as 13 with parental consent and court permission. I did not come across a US age of marriage law applicable to international travellers similar to the age of consent provision. It seems that local laws prevail in the case of marrriage.Details are at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriageable_age#North_America
