Hey Dan, please forgive me but I took the liberty of cut and paste your highlighted Typhoid Fever and post it here. Some members may have very slow download connections to various links. My daughter suffered severe diarrheawhile living in Cavite (Luzon). Apparently, I did not boil the water long enough to kill the virus or bacteria. It is reallyserious especially among young children.Mode of Transmission:• Ingestion of food and water contaminated with human wasteSigns and Symptoms:• Sustained high fever• headache• malaise (weakness)• anorexia (loss of appetite)• diarrhea or constipation and abdominal discomfortPrevention and Control:• Boil water for drinking. (Upon reaching boiling point, extend boiling for two or more minutes) or• Do water chlorination• Cook food well and always use food cover to prevent flies and other insects from contaminating them.• Wash thoroughly all vegetables and fruits especially those that are eaten raw.• Avoid eating street vended foods.• Wash hands with soap and water after using the toilet and before eating.• Keep surrounding cleam to prevent breeding of flies.

Avoid street food? That's a tough one.Seriously though, is there an inoculation for typhoid? Or just prevention techniques like you listed?

Typhoid is a type of salmonella, a bacteria that can be treated with antibiotics.Yes, there are vaccines, unfortunately not completely effective. We travel with cripto and know how to dose it (ciprofloxacin) we also always have on hand Pedialyte for the children.http://www.cdc.gov/nczved/divisions/dfbmd/diseases/typhoid_fever/
