new story. HUMM,

at least it shows that AIRPORT security guards are doing something to protect the luggage contents

NAIA worker caught with laptop under shirt

MANILA, Philippines - A station loader at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport was arrested Friday after a security guard reportedly caught him with a computer laptop hidden underneath his shirt.

Rommel Pedrena was about to leave the luggage buildup area when security guard Allan Albert stopped him so he could be frisked before leaving the area, according to Salvador Penaflor,

assistant general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority.

Pedrena reportedly refused to be frisked, but Albert insisted, telling him that it was mandatory for every employee to be searched before leaving the area.

The guard found a laptop under Pedrena’s shirt, tucked in his waistband, and brought him to the office of the airport police.

Penaflor said Pedrena named Rodmar Maquiling

as the one who took the laptop from a passenger’s bag and gave it to him. The two men are under investigation, he added

Never, ever put anything valuable into your checked baggage.

Even your carryon baggage may not be safe from theft when it goes through airport security screening. There are many stories about TSA stealing electronics from carryon bags. So try not to let your carryon bags out of your sight and verify that nothing is missing before leaving the screening area.

Seems that when you keep Explosives, their is always a risk of detonation. since its the Philippines,

well .... here is the story,,

sad part of this,, is those who had "cases pending" now the evidence is lost,  in turn cases will be dismissed(??)

Bombs being kept as evidence in a court case went off Monday morning

Bombs being kept as evidence in a court case went off Monday morning at the Rizal police provincial headquarters in Tanay, Rizal, leaving eight people—five of them policemen—with minor injuries.

Supt. Nereo Torrecampo, provincial police deputy director,

said they counted three explosions one after the other starting at 6:10 a.m. inside a building that housed the offices of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, Scene of Crime Operations (Soco) and Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD).

He told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a text message that the explosions were so strong these tore the roof off the one-story structure. It also damaged six police vehicles and other nearby buildings.

According to Rizal police public information officer Insp. Lisa Reyes,

among those hurt were Chief Insp. Ruben Apostol, Police Officers 3 Ferdinand Jaramilla, Ferdinand Nonesa and Malvin Alfante, and PO2 Jose Grafel Tiberio who were hit by glass shards from broken windows and other flying debris.

Some of the fire volunteers who rushed to the scene also suffered injuries. Jaime Valencia, Elpidio Asis Jr. and Ramil dela Rosa, along with the injured policemen, were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident also damaged six vehicles parked in front of the single-story structure. Marianne Bermudez

Reyes said the building where the bombs were kept was destroyed.

She narrated that witnesses first spotted smoke coming from the EOD office followed five minutes later by several explosions.

She said the fire, which was believed to had been caused by

FAULTY ELECTRICAL WIRING, spread to the SWAT office where the  bombs were kept, triggering the blasts.

The police have yet to determine the number of bombs that went off although Torrecampo said dynamite and M-203 grenades were also being kept in the building as part of the SWAT unit’s equipment.

He added that they would investigate why the explosives were kept inside the SWAT office when this was against standard operating procedures.   :as-if:

“There’s a proper way and place to store explosives,” he said.                :sign0095:

The blaze which did not even reach the first alarm was put out around 7 a.m. with the damage to property estimated at P5 million.

ACME.....???

have I seen this name before....

head-scratcher.jpg

seems that some business men have watched the same cartoons I did .

 Now here is the story,,,

Two executives of the closed Jade Progressive Savings and Mortgage Bank are facing up to 14 years of imprisonment after a Manila regional trial court found them guilty of estafa, the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. said on Wednesday.

Acting presiding judge Buenaventura Albert Tenorio Jr. of the Manila RTC Branch 15 also ordered father and son Luis Co and son Alvin Milton Co–former president and assistant vice president,

respectively of the closed bank–to pay P3 million in damages.

PDIC, the statutory receiver of closed banks, filed the court suit.

Luis was granted temporary liberty but a warrant of arrest was ordered to be issued against Alvin.

The court found that the Cos defrauded the bank for P3,032,909 by making it appear that said amount was paid to

Acme Investigation Services Inc. for surveillance and security services. Evidence showed that Acme was non-existent.

The court also said that the funds were allegedly deposited under a fictitious bank account.

Officers from the Philippine Association of Detective and Protective Agency, umbrella organization of protective service firms as well as the Security Agencies and Guards Supervision Division of the National Police testified that

Acme was not in their list. Tenorio also said Acme was not registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The accused were sentenced to suffer imprisonment for a minimum of four years up to a maximum of 14 years and 8 months. In addition, the Cos were also ordered to pay the closed bank,

its depositors, creditors and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas the total amount of P3,032,909, the same amount involved in the suit.

The Cos argued that they did not commit any deceit or fraudulent act to defraud the bank, and that their criminal liability cannot be established by mere showing of their signatures in documents.

been a while. now I have found such a new topic of "wacky yet true philippine news stories"

I will only post the "wacky" part of the url link

as to keep the post  from deviating to far into "politics"

“I've heard [the argument by anti-RH advocates] that for a man to masturbate is 'murder,' and so to say that that it is 'genocide,' then it tells us what kind of discussion we have,” Cayetano said

.

She added: “I'm just saying let people draw their own conclusions. If these are the kinds of statements that the petitioners make, I leave it up to them to draw their own conclusions.”

Headline reads:

City prepares sex workers for decent livelihood

Man was the article disappointing!  I was hoping to get hired as a trainer....   :tiphat:

ILOILO City – The Task Force on Moral and Values Formation (TFMVF) is conducting a skills and livelihood training package for 75 freelance sex workers.

The Jewel in Entrepreneurship for Development (JED) program, a five-day training that started on August 13, involves freelancers plying Arroyo, Ledesma and Mabini Streets in the City Proper.

They are being trained in soap-making, household or personal products, meat and food processing, and fish products.

“This is an opportunity for them to enhance their living not just for the present but also to prepare them for future challenges in life," Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.

He even set himself as example. “Even I don’t stop studying and learning because I believe one must be armed with appropriate knowledge, skills and training to be successful,” he said.

TFMVF chairperson Jorge Duron said beneficiaries can make use of their training later on if they decide to leave their present job and start a small business.

The JED program is an initiative for moral recovery as part of the city government’s roadmap towards transformation of freelance sex workers, he added. (RPSombero, Iloilo City PIO/PN)

well its not that funny when 1 is a victim of a crime

when the abductors got the wrong man, as it seems they had all the wrong info. then it can be funny

A man who was snatched while driving in Quezon City on Thursday morning

turned out not to be the target of his “Korean” kidnappers and was eventually released in Laguna later that day.

“The abductors were given the wrong target, even the wrong plate number,” said Chief Superintendent Richard Albano, director of the Quezon City Police District.

Albano said Dominador Buena Jr. was not the man targeted by his abductors,

who looked and spoke Korean, according to the victim.

“They asked for the name of his boss and it was also a different person,” Albano said.

The victim drives for a woman physician residing in New Manila.

Buena was driving a Toyota Altis when his way was blocked by about seven men in a Toyota Grandia and a Toyota Revo along Roces Avenue at around 11 a.m.

Albano said the “HXL-579” plate number attached to the Grandia belongs to a Toyota Camry.

According to Albano, Buena heard the suspects talking about the wrong information they were fed.

Eventually the victim was dropped off in Cabuyao, where he sought police assistance.

Albano said Buena emerged unscathed from the incident but was still brought to a hospital for a check-up.

the latest story comes from Tacloban

yes even in a disaster zone a "unusual  news story" can be found

"DONT ESCAPE AND WE WILL GIVE YOU FOOD,"

seems that during the storm the guards fled and the inmates was left alone and NO FOOD

NOW THE STORY,,

MANILA, Philippines - Inmates in the Tacloban City Jail who tried to escape

were later persuaded by policemen to stay in their detention cells that were damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda after authorities gave them food, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima said.

Purisima said the attempted jailbreak happened over the weekend but the timely deployment of policemen contained it.

“When I was there last Sunday, there was an attempted breakout from the jail beside the police station; we had to suppress them by firing our weapons,” Purisima said.

The PNP chief admitted that if the inmates escaped, they would cause more problems for the authorities.

Police officials said the inmates were reportedly abandoned by their jail guards after the typhoon devastated the city. There are more than 600 inmates in the city jail.

“When our policemen talked to them, we asked them what is their problem, they said they have no food. We were looking for the guards who were supposed to be guarding them, they were all gone,” said Purisima.

So we told them we will provide you with food, you go back to your cells in 10 minutes.

Their food was at the back of the city hall. They were given food at nagpalakpakan pa nga sila

(they all clapped   :AddEmoticons04230:   ),” he added.

Like the residents affected by the typhoon, Purisima said the inmates were not immediately attended to by authorities due to other pressing concerns.

“And actually right now, the jail is under the control of the Regional Public Safety Battalion of the Eastern Visayas regional police. They were really neglected.

These people are still human beings, we still need to take care of them also,” said Purisima.

The PNP sent hundreds of policemen to Tacloban and other parts of Leyte ravaged by the typhoon last Friday.
