Forum Support Old55 Posted March 17, 2012 Forum Support Posted March 17, 2012 P-noy says he will increase tourism from 3 million to 10 million by 2016.He went on to say they, "got a $1.5 billion loan at terms better than Spain on par with Italy". As you know those countries have previously rated as investment grade for the longest time so we will be doing a lot more and pay more interest in achieving infrastructure that will support tourism, business and agriculture.Well now that makes perfect sense to me. :hystery: :sign0095:http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=788249&publicationSubCategoryId=
JJReyes Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 The visitor arrival count is only one measure of success in tourism. Equally as important are length of stay and daily expenditure or how much money a visitor spends. A significant number of forum members have elected to reside in the Philippines. Entry is counted as one time, but the length of stay is 365 days. A conservative estimated expenditure is $50 per day or $1,500 a month. The Koreans have overtaken the Japanese in terms of the annual number of visitors. Their system is to use Korean travel agencies and airlines, They patronize Korean owned local tour & transport companies; Korean owned shops, hotels and restaurants; etc Very little economic impact is felt by the population since the money is circulating within a limited, exclusive circle.Overall, I would prefer the foreign expat retirees connected with this forum as "visitors" because their daily expenditure has a more immediate and direct impact within their local community.
Forum Support Old55 Posted March 17, 2012 Author Forum Support Posted March 17, 2012 That news paper piece was fairly useless and what the President said makes little sense. The good thing is IF the government is finally and truly recognizing tourism and visitors as a positive thing and something they will support it would be a major change for the better. Frankly I will believe it when I see it Philippines is not a tourist friendly country.
joeatmanila Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Tourism in Philippines??? LOL!!!!What Philippines has to give to the tourists? beaches? Give me a break, Thailand, Indonesia and malaysia are next door, more organized and most of everything you will not see a plastic bag on your face when you snorkel/swim by the shore line. Crystal clear waters or white sand beaches? where? travel to palawan to find them...when the rest of the world is abudant on them, europeans can go to south mediterannean countries, Americans to Carribean, South Americans to their own country, Ok the russians left, i have no clue of they have beaches as such....LOL!!!!Diving? Yes they do, in most places and cases you better bring your entire own gear other wise you will breath from rusty tanks and if something happens God may bless you until you arrive to a proper hospital...Hookers? Oh yes!!!! But Vietnam is leading the way and Thailand made it a trade mark many years now.Shopping? Fake bags and shoes in Greenhills and pearls plus...what else can you buy in a good price in Philippines? Gold and diamonds but this market is open only to international corporations and not even to the locals.Jeepneys? Yes the Cultura shops perhaps they try to pass it as a national trade mark....but it is actually a disgrace, nothing fun on it than a minute of being there.Weather? typical tropical weather...shall i mention other countries as such? spare me the typing...Infrstructure such as proper hotels with proper services? Not unless you plan to pay more than 100-150$/night. Carribean, central and south america as well as a few mediteranead countries, hits back on it big time with less than 100$ for the same facilities.Food? Only filipinos enjoy filipino food!!! The rest is chinese-japanese-asian wanna be dishes. And to justify it, we all come from everywhere in this world. We have seen all kinds of national restaurants, Thai, chinese, vietnamese, japanese, mexican, italian, greek, turkish etc etc Have you seen anywhere else a filipino proper restaurant which is not a local canteen for the expats there or for the crew of the ships? What has Philippines to offer? What will make me fly 14-16 hours from Europe of US down here, spend a week or two, with my wife and kids and when i come back i will say "WoW philippines" or "only in the philippines"? Yes the last i might do but in a negative way.

Mike S Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Well the Philippines DOES have a lot to offer to people that come to visit ..... not everyone likes to come and sit on the beach for 2 weeks and get the hide on their bodies burned off ..... I lived in Florida for 30 some years and other than going to Daytona Beach for bike week twice a year and going deep sea fishing you can keep the beaches .... you also won't find the beauty of the Philippines in the large cities as there is nothing beautiful about pollution and crowds ..... but visit some of the smaller islands .... check out the waterfalls ..... visit the caves .... go to the REAL native tribal areas like the rice terraces etc. ....... take a bangka or barko and travel the water world here in the Phils ...... see some of the historical sites and museums ..... the islands resound with all kinds of history and festivals ...... speaking of festivals they have them all over the Phils ......But yea ... I see your point .... there ain't much to do here in the Philippines unless you go to the beach ....... :hystery: :hystery: ...... :tiphat:
