Jollygoodfellow Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 also jolly good fellow, I havent explored all of your site yet but the few areas I looked at are great for me & quite helpful, I do intend to visit all areas & make use of it. Well done on your site, its very informative...Its just I am new to your site..thanks Exactly that so that is why I questioned your intentions since at the time you were only onto your second post and did not make a good impression. As for your opinion, it's welcome like anyone else but tone it down even if you do not agree or feel strongly about the topic. So now we can start again

nor cal mike Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 WOW ! ! This has certainly been an interesting read. I never knew food could stir up such emotion. I want to say hats off to Dave for maintaining a good sense of civility in the face of such unflattering comments. I also want to commend those members who offered up levity which seemed to do a good job of humorizing the situation. This speaks volumes about our membership. Perhaps after a somewhat rocky start our new member will become another valued member. His apology is certainly a huge step in the right direction. I was not able to participate in the discussion as I have never dined at this establishment, however you can rest assured I will on my next visit to Cebu.
nor cal mike Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I forgot to mention that I will soon be making my annual visit and extended stay to Butuan, so if anyone has any good eating suggestions please post them and I will certainly check them out while I'm there and post my experience here. Popular Post Jollygoodfellow Posted October 5, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2012 I'm sorry to say I have to give this place the thumbs down on my visit yesterday. It was Monday evening and I was very surprised to see how busy all of the restaurants in Ayala mall were. I was with my wife and told her I knew of a good place, called Canvas. At first I was surprised that it was the least busy of all the restaurants in Ayala. No problem. I told my wife: You choose what you want, and she smiled. She picked something that looked good in the picture and I told the waitress: She is a simple girl from the province. Is that something that a simple filipina from the province will enjoy? She said: Oh yes. Then we ordered ice tea. Now things went bad. Dona spit the first mouthful of ice tea out and her evening had begun to be ruined. How was she or I to know that this was not the ice tea served at every other restaurant in Philippines? The wording on the menu was the same. No one mentioned that it was some Australian version that consists of very strong, cold tea with a bit of lemon in it. I tried to put on a brave face but I couldn't drink it either. Then the meals came. She tried, Almost in tears she was, as she tried to pretend she was enjoying the meal that just did not suit a filipina's taste buds,. I told her: Don't worry about it, hon. I'll just choke back my fish and chips in a hurry and we'll go somewhere that you like. Don't force yourself to eat a meal you are not enjoying just because IT COST ME 850 PESOS for the two of us. So I was going to choke back my fish and chips but the damn things were BLISTERING hot so i could not do it without burning my mouth. So I put a little of the Tartar sauce on and had a bit . . but that was enough. The served me a THIMBLE full of tartar sauce. WTF? May as not even bother. Do they want me to ask them back every mouthful to refill the thimble? These may not seem like a lot of negative points, they are just the ones that I can remember. The experience was negative all around as in there was nothing positive I can point to and say there was a bright side. I asked for/demanded the bill,. Paid it and left. I won't be back. Sitting at the table next to me was the man who introduced himself as the head chef. I forget his name. He asked me what was wrong. I thought: You have been sitting there the whole time and you cannot figure it out? I am not gonna be able to tell you anything that will change the way you conduct business and I don't fee like being placated with words. That is what I thought, what I said was: My wife is a simple girl from the province. She does not get out much and she is not happy dining here. Thank you, we will go somewhere else. Maybe he can read my comments here, now that I have calmed myself, and figure it out. OK This is what really happened on the night Dave and Dona visited the Canvas. To get a understanding of the chain of events I will remind you of the Forum get together held at the Canvas earlier this year where Dave attended without Dona on this occasion. Now no one can forget the lovely waitress at the Canvas but to refresh ones memory or just to have a second look I will include the photo. Note who is in the picture. :) Dave and Dona were walking around Ayala when Dona says, Dave hon; I'm hungry lets eat. Dave scratches his head and other things while he thinks where to grab dinner; the light comes on and "Jollibee" he suggests. No says Dona, something fancy; then Dona spots an Australian themed restaurant and says lets go there hon. Dave is overcome with memories of the last visit and that lovely waitress but as he had a few too many that night he was not sure how it finished up, a little reluctant he follows Dona into the Canvas where he surveys the area and no lovely waitress there, all good lets sit here Dave suggests. After a few minutes a waiter comes to Dave's table and introduces himself as Jun Jun, Dave thinks he has a stutter but nice guy. All good so far and Janx2 hands out the menu where they both order Green tea while Dave and Dona continue to scan the menu. Seeing Dona having a problem deciding what to order but she has picked something from a picture: Dave ask's Junx2 if this picture is something a simple Filipina would enjoy, oh yes sir was the reply so Dave orders the same picture and decides on Fish and Chips for himself. Shortly after the green tea arrives where Dona takes a mouth full, Oh hon, this is nice tea, not like that same stuff you get any where else. "Must be Aussie tea" Dave says as he enjoys his too. Dona breaks into a verse while drinking Aussie tea, Aussie Aussie Aussie , oi oi oi she laughs and they share a special moment together. :-kiss: Dave still a little worried that lovely waitress might turn up scans the area and suddenly he feels the roof crushing in on him; she just arrived and their eyes meet. She starts waving to Dave and Dona turns and notices, "who's that Filipina waving at you hon" ? Lucky their order turns up at that very moment so Dave avoids the question. Jun x2 places Dona's on the table first, Ohh look hon, what a beautiful picture you ordered and the waiter suggest careful Mam, freshly printed and the ink still wet. Dona admires her fresh picture and Dave's fish and chips arrives; piping hot; look Dona what a nice meal he says. "Wow" almost a bucket of Tartar sauce to go with it announces Dave with a smile. Now Dave begins to eat, slowly at first as it was hot; then Dona notices the lovely waitress again but this time blowing kisses; "whats she doing hon" Dona asks? Dave starts to eat fast as its time to escape and Dona asks again; oh this is Australia themed restaurant replies Dave so she is just impersonation that famous actor; you know the one with the big hat and knife; ah... says Dona, "Alligator Dundee" while Dave re thinks the term simple Filipina. Now Dave decides its time to get out of here and is trying desperately to eat the blistering hot fish but with tears rolling down his face and sweat poring off he could not stand the burning mouth any longer. He grabs what he thinks is tea but picks up the vase with the flower sitting in the middle of the table and gulps a few mouthfuls down fast then spurts it out, yuk, horrid Aussie tea, lets go he screams. Dona asks Jun if she can take her picture and Junx2 says "yes mama"; I will frame it for you straight away which made Dona's night. They pay their bill and the head chef asks if anything is wrong and Dave replies the damn "Filipina and Chips" are too hot and the tea taste like water from a vase. We are never coming back again Dave shouts! The chef thinks to himself just another dumb foreigner. Dona and Dave get to the door and the lovely Filipina cries out out, "me love you long time Dave" as Dave and Dona hurry off to Jollibee. Disclaimer This is only my version of what happened that night and we all know Dave is a happily married man and he has never seen the lovely Filipina except in his dreams.
