OnMyWay Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Price-wise, there is usually not that much difference between a r/t and one way. Why not buy the r/t to return within 21 (or 30) days and cancel the return when he gets here. You can use the return for up to a year if needed. I usually have found that to be true and one way tickets are usually very expensive, but I was encouraged by Dave's note that he found a a one way for $656, and that is where I will be flying from this summer.
i am bob Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 You might also want to check on-line tickets for a multi stop ticket in which you stop in Philippines leaving the next day for another country. This will give you the onward ticket that you would need. Will they accept this when you apply for visa on arrival?

Some say it should be with in the first 21 days but I have not seen anywhere where that was actually required.

I have seen other countries reject a visa because of the short time limitation - once I had to be escorted to the ticket counter (a different country of course) to have a date extended on my ticket in order to stay for a few more days.
Dave Hounddriver Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Will they accept this when you apply for visa on arrival? There is a small possibility they would question it if you are trying to get the first visa renewal at the airport. Ordinarily you would just get the normal 21 day free visa stamp and then renew at the BI office later. The BI office never ask to see an onward ticket. The only ones who want to see that are the immigration official at the airport and clerk at the airline check in desk. Both of those may or may not care to see the online ticket depending on their mood and coffee intake that day.

Higg-num Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 I just wish to be clear...NOT attempting to try you guys patients but I get a round trip ticket from the U.S. to cebu & back to the U.S. Once I land and check in with customs, Their laws on entry of Expats/visitors say I can enter the country as long as it is round trip. ( Got that part ) Does the date of the return ticket matter ? What I am attempting to ask is there a time frame ? I must file every so often ( Once a month or every two months...I forget ) to extend my stay there with customs or immigration. ( Forget the official office title. I'd have to refer to my notes. ) Just wish to do the most efficient thing with the least hoops. Wonder if an " Open ended " Return would get me in the country ? I'm at the point of looking for plane tickets and getting my shots ! Nothing is in the way other than finalizing my plan and I'm on a plane ! You can cancel or change return ticket any time or go with a refundable return ticket and get refund after entering country if you want the freedom to return whenever u want. I have done that a couple times and it works fine. Don't worry so much. they want u in country u will help the economy. As for going to immigration it is after 21 days for visa renewal then every two months. I overstayed my visa once by 3 weeks and it was no hassle. Just had to visit office of head guy who took about a minute to stamp the form and told me to be more careful in future and paid a 500 peso penalty. ( Got that part ) It does not need to be a round ticket, an onward ticket is what is required. If you are moving to the Philippines permanently for example a ticket to say Cebu and then another to Malaysia or what ever works out the cheapest for you. It could be a ferry ticket as long as its out of the country. The airlines to comply with the Philippines BI regulations just wants to see you have a ticket to somewhere, once in the Philippines the BI might wish to see it and what you do with that ticket after you enter is up to you. Americano Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Here's another example of complying with the Philippines law of having an onward ticket. Last year I was living in the Philippines but not a permanent resident yet. I bought a round trip ticket to Hong Kong for a vacation. To satisfy the onward ticket requirement, I bought a one way ticket from Clark to Hong Kong which was very cheap. The ticket wasn't refundable so I threw it away.
