The newspaper story is a bit of a mess some of the facts are in question. While doing some online searching I found that Azamara Club cruises is an upscale company owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises. The ship is fairly new the crew size nearly matches the passengers. It sailed out of Hong Kong to Manila and the fire disabling the main engines happened just outside Philippines approaching Indonesia.I never knew any cruse ships sailed through Philippines. The news article said "Royal Caribbean Cruises" in fact the line is part of the Carnival Corporation.http://www.sunstar.c...e-manila-214146

Update; The ship was able to make some repairs and is now underway to its next port of call.

Sure glad that the crappers were OK ..... but I guess there are plenty of Jollibee's and MacDoodles and BPI's in Manila to accommodate the passangers and crew .... and then another options is just let it fly in Manila Bay ..... can't pollute that body of water any more than what it is now ..... :hystery: :hystery: ....... course there is a river nick-named Sh*t River up where Jake used to hang out in Olongapo (sp) ..... but that was back in the good ol' days .... hey Jake ..... :540:

The photo above is the cruise ship making a port visit to Manila prior to being dead in the water and adrift. My understanding was one of the engine rooms was on fire but don't understand how the other engine room was affected and the ship went partially dark. Normally they are physically separated with their own automated halon system to extinguish the fire immediately. This cruise ship has diesel-electric propulsion system. Thank god, not too many crew or passengers were seriously injured. Perhaps JoeatManila can shed some light on this matter. He is a mariner officer and has been around the block for many years.Respectfully -- Jake (retired coin diver of chit river) Edited by Jake
