sonjack2847 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Taft properties are building a new condominium on Maxilom ave Cebu city. A retaining wall has just collapsed at the rear of the compound damaging 8 houses. If this is the standard of work on the construction you may be well advised to give this one a miss. I would post a link but don`t know how to but it was in Sun Star Cebu today if you want more information. Kevin

Tomaneng said the reconstruction of the houses will begin today. The developer will simultaneously begin the reconstruction of the retaining wall today. TPVDC classified affected residents into two, according to the extent of the damage on their houses. Tomaneng said those whose houses had minor damage can go back in 20 days while those that are in worse state will have to wait for 60 days for the reconstruction work on their homes to be completed. He said surface concreting will be done in the affected area to strengthen the foundation of the wall. This is expected to be completed in eight days. The installation of the 12-meter soldier pile made of steel will begin after the completion of the surface concreting. Monitoring Tomaneng said the implementation of the plan will be monitored by Cebu City Hall. The company spokesman also stressed that cave-in will not affect the structure of the future condominium tower. “It is very minor and it will not affect the structural part of the condominium tower, so there is no need to worry,” he said. HLURB 7 Director Alixes Roy Lopez invited EMB 7 Fernando Quililan to conduct a joint inspection of the project site. Quililan told Sun.Star Cebu that EMB will recommend measures to ensure the structural integrity of the construction. But he said that the final decision would still be up to TPVDC. “I don’t want to preempt the owner, who stands more to lose,” he said. An EMB 7 team, led by environmental management specialist Francis Escalante, visited the construction site last Wednesday and noted that work on the project has ceased. The developer also placed safety signs at the construction site. The EMB team said that aside from the portion of the retaining wall that collapsed, there were also cracks on the structure. Quililan said the presence of a creek at the site is “not a significant aspect” of their investigation. He added that EMB is more concerned of the structural soundness of the building to be built. Mike S Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I'm sure most of you have seen this site before the construction ...... right before you get to Yellow Cab on the same side of the street .... there was a hill on one side and a hill on the other with a creek running down between them ...... as the dirt would have to be on the level with both hills and knowing how dubiously constructions is done here .... I think I will pass on any condo offers ..... but I can see as how this will be a great place to live for the bar-hopping crowd .... less than a block from the Mango Bars .... :nudie: :540:
