Front Teeth Knocked Out

I have failed to really get any answers about the professional " Look " & results on something like this in the P.I. or Cebu so I'm posting.

A friend of mine ( Airborne, Ranger ) Got his teeth knocked out once. He swallowed them and kept with the mission objective. He had screws put into his upper palate to attach the Pretty " Man-made" front teeth.

Any idea if ... A) Do the dentist /doc's there in cebu have this ability ? B) Any idea what this might cost ?

I hope this does not happen to me but getting punched and elbowed /kneed in the face often ...it could. Suggestions ?

Other than not getting them knocked out to start with.

Thanks

p.s. Yes , I have a protective mouth peice professionally made. Expensive but cheap insurance...know what I mean.

I havent had anymajor dental work carried out in the Philippines, but have had a couple of extractions and fillings, all have been very profesional with the fillings on average 400 p each and the extractions depending on level of difficulty 400p up, in the case of my extractions the dentist took xrays first so as to determine best direction to pull [ going with and not againts the roots lol] had one of my fillings done with an injection which was painless, and the other she manged to clean up and filled without any injections needed, hygene was first class, I am a diabetic which i mentioned when the receptionist took my details, when i saw the dentist she had obviously read the notes as she expressed some concern about my blood clotting after the extraction of a molar, and booked me in for the extraction asking that I test my blood sugar the day the extraction is due to make sure its between normal levels, all went well on the day.

I have an American Friend who's sister came across to Cebu just to have her dental work done, as i understand it was fairly major work and she was very pleased with the results, just for the record i didnt use any special expat trained dentist or anyone recomended, just went to my local shopping mall and booked my self in at the dentisits reception, simple as that.............. much easier and cheaper than the UK.

I need extensive work - probably multiple extractions dentures at this point - and was hoping to wait until I move over there next year to get it done. I have insurance here in the states but even with insurance one filling is about $150.

I have read a lot online and generally people seemed pleased with the work and it is supposed to be a lot cheaper.

Anyone have any horror stories (personal, not hearsay) or is it as good & cheap as I hear?

We (me and my lady) are currently catching up on years of dental work... so here is my experience in Cebu City. Just had 2 molars extracted in a semi-emergency fashion. We found the dentist from a recommendation on the web; location is downtown Cebu City, near Metro Gaisano. We went there and were comfortable with the dentist and facility. Cost was 2000 PHP for both. A bit high I think for here... except I didn't mind much because the trade-off was that the dentist took her time and only had me as a patient for the afternoon. The first tooth was a bit difficult also as it had very flared roots and did not want to let go. She got it out with time in ONE piece, so no drilling and no pieces left behind. The other had broken off at the gum line. It was pretty easy to get out but in pieces.

2 molars extracted (2000 php) with pain meds and anti-biotics 3100 php TOTAL (Under $80 USD)

We decided to look some more since the pain was gone and see if I could find another dentist for the rest of my work and ALSO for my girl's teeth. Martial arts were NOT involved but she lost her front top 2 teeth and looked to need braces and a bridge or implants. My girls aunt connected us with a doctor's practice fairly close to downtown also on P. del Rosario. My lady has her new braces already. The total on them is 25,000 php with everything included until the end and she will be wearing them for 4 months most likely. I'll address the replacement teeth later.

This dentist has done no work on me yet. The exam went well though and I'll be going back for one extraction and several crowns. The prices we got are 500 for cleaning, 500 for light cure filling, 500 for extraction. No crown price as of yet... I got tired of asking questions.

We decided not to go with implants here. It would require involving another dentist as the current one doesn't do them. So, no hard numbers there. My feeling is that the quality is just not going to be there. With insurance in the US the cost would run too close to each other that if I want them in the end I'll get it done there for the bit better quality... I'm guessing.

For a bridge though it is 10,000 php per tooth for JC Porcelain (I'm not sure exactly what that means??? a brand maybe) There was also a 6500 php price given. That may be is difference in the quality of porcelain used or amount. We will know better later as our question quota was empty on Tuesday and the bridge is not on the schedule until December.

For me I think that we will go with the partial denture... I get to stay with the same dentist for all the work and the denture cost.... ? not that much relatively. They will do for a while and if I want to go to implants later I've not lost much. I'll give total price and # of teeth later if anyone wants it.

My fingers are starting to cramp now... so you are on your own for now!!!

you name it they do it on dental care procedures. Pricing a fraction of what it costs in US. Quality of work can be superb, ask recomendations from other foreigners who have visited dentists abroad.

I know of several Filipinos here in Canada with dental insurance who go home to the Philippines for their dental work. Even with the insurance, they say it is still much cheaper and they get to see family at the same time. Obviously they are not including the price of air fare...

yes not including the Airfare, BUT at least they are able to spend time with the "family" or other familes while doing the needed dental work.

rxpinoy.com has listings for both dental and medical
