Old55 ...... don't know if you realize it or not but I think you just hit the nail square on the head with what is wrong with the way the Philippines operates in general and explains why the population does what it does ..... and may very well explain why there is so much corruption here ...... to many fingers and not enough pies and all caused by the statement you made below ......

Filipinos are divided geographically, culturally and by language they don't have united identity or a cohesive society.

Thanks Mike. I have no idea if what I said is correct and in no way did I mean it as an insult or cheap shot but I believe its true.

No, I don't think it's an insult or cheap shot -- It's a head shot bull eyes! I would like to add another category of the

inability for Filipinos to unify their differences. In spite of being the only Christian nation in the Far East, the lack of

humbleness, hate thy neighbor and showing no remorse is the order of the day.

Saving Face is more paramount than apologizing. I believe today's culture is maintaining a status of ill gotten wealth

and power. The 3 G's -- guns, goons and gold. The latest is having a customized wheel chair with matching neck

brace to show your ungratefulness against the people. They still think they are untouchables.

The "masa" quickly catches on to this and will proudly display their dental braces, fake or dead cell phones, fake

Levis jeans, fake designer bags and plastic hearts. I think the biggest difference is the economic status symbol. It

doesn't matter whether you're Muslim or Christian, farmer or rebel......

Everyone wants a Pajero wheel chair these days.....he, he.

I've been told by someone who knows there are now more Marines over there full time and there will be more "activity's" in the future.

http://www.marinecor...s-tours-040812/

YES there will be an increase of the USMC here in the RP,

for training purposes only.

AND the men(soldiers) will be kept on a very TIGHT LEASH,

meaning "dating or visiting" pleasure places ARE OFF LIMITS.

this as picked up sunday at the Memorial day event,

a 1 Star US MARINE Corp General was in attendance, althou I did not speak with him personally i was able to speak with a much more junior officer, and he was able to answer my questions,

Don't know about the Marines but did see a reference to the nuclear North Carolina being in Subic for supplies . To my knowledge there were no protests , soap box grand standing or Miriam Defensor xenopophobic rants , which i guess is a good sign . Now , if someone can just explain to me what that Philippine jet aircraft was that i saw while looking out my front door that hit another gear and shot "straight" up until out of sight . But , hey everybody knows it was probably a mirage . :-)

Anything is possible. I don't think the US will have a large base on Philippines again. Not that I know anything.

The Filipino people don't want us there and I think we should respect that even if the government requests it.

bases are NOT ALLOWED per the 1987 consitution

as the 1946 Rp-US treaty was not renewed by the by the Rp senate

http://www.chanroble...upremelaw2.html

the VFA of 1998 does allow troops but not bases

for more detail info please read the link, as many are not familiar with the TRUE NATURE of the agreement

as of the time of this posting it seems that it is certain that there will be no U.S. bases opened in the P.I. it seems that a more local pressance in the regon is a show of force now as there will be more sails of former navy and coast guard ships to the R.P.N.. it it also said that a U.S. patrol squadron may be rotateed to the area for suveylance missions in the future but now its liberty and upkeep in subic bay.

Though it is the US that is getting all the news about the military coming in, there are several other countries that are also doing the same! It is all a show of force to the one country who is threatening all it's neighbours- (if you catch my drift... If not, think water - specifically Scarborough Shoals and area... Not only are other countries doing port calls in the PI but also receiving reciprocal visits as well!
