Thank you Jode! Very interesting background of the Battle of Ormoc. I agree with the author -- if we would have lost this battle, Douglas MacArthur could have lost the bigger Battle of Leyte. Forum Support Old55 Posted May 25, 2012 Forum Support Posted May 25, 2012 I never did get around to any WWII wreck dives in Philippines. There are a few Japanese ships under 100 ft but most of them got salvaged not much left worth seeing. If you want to wreck dive Palau is the place to go. Four hours south of Cebu? samatm Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Now wreck diving here...too DEEP but you will love this: http://www.bigfootascendant.com/our-films/documentary/uss-cooper-return-to-ormoc-bay.html I have also been very intrigued with the battle of Ormoc Bay. I love to tell Younger Ormocans about the battle. Usually there eyes glaze over..like what the hell are you talking about, but some say really wow i didn't know. I did meet one young guy that did know plenty and he even pointed out the hills which housed JAP gun emplacements and that fired onto Ormoc Bay. when I take the WEESAM and stand outside by the diesel smokestacks I get afeel of what patrolling those waters might have been like during the batttle of Ormoc bay in and around the Camotes. Take Weesam not Supercat.
