Dave Hounddriver Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 The “Balikbayan Privilege” may be availed of by foreign family members of all 3 classifications provided that they travel together everytime they enter the country (MEMORANDUM dated July 1, 2008 issued by Atty. Edgardo L. Mendoza, Chief, IRD). http://immigration.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=239&Itemid=80 Of course anything is 'possible' in this country but you can see the letter of the law and the intent is to allow the family to come in WITH the Balikbayan person

I DID hope I could get it without needing to bring my wife to Sweden, saving ticket money :)

Although, getting her out of the PI on her own, seems to be a problem just now. seems Ladies on there own, are not afforded a lot of courtesy by immigration. here or Hong kong. I heard that so many Questions are asked
johnb Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 "OK. I DID hope I could get it without needing to bring my wife to Sweden, saving ticket money :)" Hi Thomas, Dont realy want to encourage bending of the rules, but it would be possible to meet your wife for example in Hongkong, thailand, or one of the other cheap destinations from the Philippines, so you could fly from Sweden on a return ticket to the agreed country to meet your wife [ say thailand], then buy a cheap return ticket for yourself and join her on the flight back into the Philippines, no different realy from doing a normal BB stamp [visa] run, when it comes to you returning to Sweden you will of course have to return to the country you initially joined your wife. might be worth considering. I heard that so many Questions are asked (And to johnb too). Yes, that can be an alternative, but I thought of just making it more convinient, and if wife have to get leaving permit and have tó fly two times, then it isn't convienient anyway. Yes, I had read about that leaving permit demand. Are there any other countries than the Philippines and dictators demanding permits to let own citicens LEAVE the home country?... Perhaps they have the law just to get an additional sourse of income to the government :( because if they would have had it to stop criminals from leaving, then they could have solved it by checking passports when entering flights/ferries... bootleultras Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Theyre really are strict on this now, i used to come in with no onward ticket and never gotasked for one anyway, I would be surprised that he left his country of origin or connecting country without being questioned on where his outbound ticket was. Last time i flew from the states through the UK, it was only in London that i was asked where my ticket was and then asked to purchase an onward ticket also. When speaking to the immigration officer at NAIA although she asked for my outbound ticket she also knew it was booked for 6 weeks & not 21 days but also that I wouldnt be leaving anytime soon (after explaining I was married) and just directed me to the Immigration extension bureau that they have in the airport itself.
Jollygoodfellow Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 But how about the BB Visa - is it possible to get it if wife MEET at the airport, when her foreigner husband arrive after being away by himself Well not sure about all airports but there will be no one allowed in the arrivals area at all in Cebu so you would be on your own.
Markham Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 It is not possible for a passenger to be met by a non-passenger in either the Immigration or Customs Halls in any airport in the world. Philippine Airports prohibit "meeters and greeters" from entering the arivals terminal for reasons of security.
Jack Peterson Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 It is not merely being met by your wife, she has, to be entering the PI at the same time as you. Any other way and look ,at the revenue loss on extensions. :tiphat:
i am bob Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 When my daughter (who has multiple physical disabilities) and my twin sons (13 years old at the time) flew to Toronto to visit me for a summer, I had to arrange special permission to meet them in the arrivals area and was escorted by security the whole time. If I had not had some pull on this (one of the rare times I did), they would have been on their own until they came out of the arrivals area.
