Forum Support Old55 Posted July 11, 2012 Forum Support Posted July 11, 2012 This maybe of interest, warning its a typical mishmash English-Filipino mess. I read it twice am still not sure what the hell the facts are perhaps a move in the right direction. i am bob Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) To me it is just saying that, for illegal foreigners who have been in the country since the year 2000, they will be made citizens of the Philippines. This will basically enable the government to tax them. I'm not sure if the P200,000 cost is still valid though the article sounds like it is not. OK, thanks Bob! I read the darn thing twice and couldn't figure out what the heck they were saying. Edited July 11, 2012 by Old55
Will Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I don't believe anybody should be forgiven for doing something illegal without some form of punishment! But, I keep forgetting, we are living in BIZARRO times and a BIZARRO world. Perhaps I just still have a bad taste in my mouth. :508: :signnvm:
billten Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 they will be made citizens of the Philippines. I don't think so Bob, the way i read it was that they have to pay a minimum of P200k in fines and then they can start the process of becoming citizens, no automatic...
FlyAway Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Sounds like an attempt to keep the immigration detention facilities from filling up. Makes more economic sense to encourage people to get legal status. Think about this, who would immigrate to Philippines with the intention of trying to milk government services?
i am bob Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I'm not so sure about the P200k part... That was from the 2002 initiative but this is a new ammendment to the immigration laws. they will be made citizens of the Philippines. I don't think so Bob, the way i read it was that they have to pay a minimum of P200k in fines and then they can start the process of becoming citizens, no automatic... moparsquid Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 fineing them a fee and then making them go through the immagration process is a good idea ,not like here in the U.S. they just make you leagle and you vote for the democratic party. dont give anything away free make all law breakers pay one way or the other...
retired Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 My only thought about this would be how many illegal expats who have overstayed due to a lack of funds are going to come up with 200,000 or whatever the final figure is in order to start a legal process ? :-)
