shiredevon Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Just to enlighten you, my son had a university degree and was working in baker street london, he was however stressed to pieces and i hated to see it, I had just built a supermarket so i offered him the choice to run it and maybe have a better life, which he accepted, the truth is with the economy the way it is if he went back he would have no prospects, no job, and nowhere to live, That's about it really, i'm almost in the same boat, i came here loaded but the phils has drained my finances to such an extent that whilst i have a reasonable lifestyle here back home i be reduced to a pauper. such is life hehe,

shiredevon Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Just for clarification, I take your point bubba, but i was talking about a 13 and not a 13a visa, and i was not talking about an under the table deal to save money i was talking about the only was you can get a 13 quota visa, I'm also not whinging coz i have no money, in fact i've still got quite a lot, i was more emphasizing the fact that unless your careful it goes very easily,
Popular Post Ashanti Posted July 12, 2012 Popular Post Posted July 12, 2012 Morning Shire As a parent with a young adult children, Iiving in UK I can understand very well your situation. I have a friend who is exactly in the same boat as you. Her son is in PI now and is having a life and enjoying it. But – I must say the big BUT, it was financed by his parents who are happy to do it to save the boys sanity. I cannot offer you any help or answers but I can pose some food for thoughts which I hope would help iron out some of your confused thinking as me and the husband was discussing our friends situation. I have to say, my husband agreed with our friends thinking ie. sending the son to PI and I was oppose to it. But I have also have to say, though my husband is no fool and is much on the ball, he hasn’t live in PI except for a short family visits. Now, on my friends situation is that, the boy’s college course was discontinued. The only way forward for him was to go to another College offering the same course but is miles away from home or to change courses. The son did not fancy the choices he has and with financial crisis in UK, not much of a job prospect in sight hence the boy was very depressed. The son was into football and had contacts with the filipino community and heard from the grapevine that PI needs professional footballers. So he gets in touch with a PI football Club and was offered a job and off he went to PI. Now, im not sure of my facts here as our friend were not forthcoming with the facts. I know there are some football clubs in PI but as you also know (as living in PI), they are not great or a paying proposition never mind a world standard. From what I can gather (from various sources rather than the parents), he doesn’t always have a game so probably don’t get paid either. He also signed on as a fashion model. Being of a mix race and tall there was no problem and he did get modelling assignments. Again, the showbiz world, esp in PI are very capricious besides you need godfathers to get the choice works. So in the meantime, the boy was financed by the parents to keep him solvent. Now my questions are how long the parents can finance him? And what is the boy’s realistic prospect of getting a proper paying job in PI? I mean proper as in not only supporting him and realistic future prospect? What happened if he gets sick or hospitalised? The boy seems to have a great life now but what happens if the parents can no longer support him, would his friends be willing to pass the hat for him? My point is, the boy might have a miserable life in UK but sooner or later he will find something or get a job. Also being in the West, there is the benefit system as well as free health care. Thousands of Filipinos wants to get out of PI for a better job prospect. Here comes the boy from the West – wanting to find better prospect in PI???????? You mustn’t forget, everywhere is better when you have money. Its also great when the sun is shining. But at the end of the day if you don’t buckle down, youll end up a rolling stone that gather no moss.
shiredevon Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 All very True Ashanti, If i hadn't a job to offer my son on a plate i would never advise him to come here, in reality the RP is a good place to come and spend money made elsewhere, as unless you throw a considerable amount of money at it your not going to make much, I've built a shopping mall more for a whim really but the return on investment is very low, there are a few niche markets such as bars in Manila catering for tourists who are not adverse to spending money when on vacation, other than that the indigenous population is not that affluent so your reduced to selling cheap products with tiny margins. Something that staggered me was that people are considered unemployable after 25, nearly all job vacancies stipulate 18-24, my wife's brother has been looking for work for a year now but as she says he's too old!, scary eh. one problem with my son is it's gone from one extreme to the other, and all his work getting a degree seems wasted here, mind you my pos checkouts always run great, hehe. Good luck.
