sjp52 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Ok Hope this works. You need to go to http://minus.com/ and search for sjpxxx I think, I,m new to this. I registered and got to the page with the mp3 files - http://sjpxxx.minus.com/ but they don't play, at least for me. I just tried it and they worked for me. Did you try downloading them

Beachboy Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) This can be fun -- the phrases I get from my GF are the classics: kinahanglan ko ikaw sa akong kinabuhi (I need you in my life), permi ko magdamgo nemo (I always dream of you) , etc -- not exactly the Cebuano you want to use with your neighbors (or maybe it is .. haha). But the flash cards are a good way to build vocabulary. The difficult I have is with the grammar. You need to know it to construct sentences. If you haven't seen them already, here are links to 2 good .pdf manuals that can be a starting point: This is Tom Marking's notes: http://www.tomandcat...oStudyNotes.pdf This site gives you some lessons: at the bottom of each page click on the link to take you top the next lesson. When you get to Lesson 5 you will get a YouTube link to Magbinisaya.com "Love Words in Bisaya" site where a cute 20-something woman teaches you to say "I love you" .. "Do you love me" .. and (be careful with this one!) "Will you marry me" .. http://www.languagel...buano/les1.html (Seriously it's a good place to practice pronunciation) Finally this is a listing on resources for Bisaya (Cebuano) on the Web: https://sites.google...anguage/cebuano I found language is learned by using it, so I don't expect to learn a lot until I move to Cebu. But it's something to do in the mean time. Good luck everybody. Edit: Removed one link (MB) Edited August 3, 2012 by MikeB
earthdome Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Since I plan to move to Baguio on Luzon I am trying to learn some basic Tagalog. I found a bunch of videos on youtube for this. Just search on youtube for "Tagalog 101". http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tagalog+101&oq=tagalog+101&gs_l=youtube-reduced.3..0l3j0i5.22019477.22021967.0.22022338.11.6.0.5.5.0.160.795.0j6.6.0.swc..0.0...1ac.6nIrg0Zp-I4
GregZ Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Yes, but nothing downloaded. Maybe someone else can try? I'm slow at checking back for comments, but YES they downloaded and work just fine for me. Thanks for sharing. ADDED TAGALOG in my CARDS on StudyBlue: I've been adding cards on the original set (see original post for access links and instructions) to over 540 now. Those cards are only English ->Cebuano (Bisaya). There are 2 other sets (located in BACKPACK) that have the words in English -> Cebuano AND Tagalog. I am adding more cards daily. http://www.studyblue.com/?site=backpack#backpack is link to backpack IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT (FREE). If NOT, look at post #1. Over 600 cards as of today. I also noticed that they may allow sound file attachment but have not tried it. Maybe someone wants to do something with the audio files from SJP52? They may charge for that??? I do LIKE the feature where you can show the answer first (Ceb & Tag) then try and remember the English word(s). I'm not practicing as much as I would like, but am up to 45% proficiency on the original deck. :bash: Languages are harder to beat into my head than things involving numbers, but I'll get there. I got a good laugh from my girl when I said, "Bastos iring." :hystery: out of the blue. Rude cat, referring to the noisey iring that is continually coming by checking for scraps and telling the whole neighborhood of his arrival. Maayong Buntag! :cheersty: Edited August 4, 2012 by GregZ
GregZ Posted August 4, 2012 Author Posted August 4, 2012 The Difference between Bisaya, Binisaya, Visayan & Cebuano - Short but informative article about these four words often used seemingly interchangably. Quoting from there in case you want the even SHORTer STORY that I found useful. .... Cebuano is the language of the people of Cebu. It's also known as Sugbuhanon or Sinugbuhanon. It's Bisaya. As a matter of fact, that is how Bisaya is known the world over and even in the academe which encodes it as Sebwano. However, people from Mindanao shy away from calling their language Cebuano which they consider the language of the people of Cebu. They call it Bisaya or Binisaya instead. So I often use both terms interchangeably. Bisaya, however, should not be confused with Visaya, which is a subgroup of Philippine languages that includes Cebuano/Bisaya, Hiligaynon, Waray, Aklanon, Kinaray-a, etc. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/1328460 ..... YEAH! I've learned something today... I am now complete, AGAIN. I also want to share that even though the CLAIM here, by the good doctor, is that they are the same, there are WORDS that mean something totally different on Mindinao than on Cebu. I learned that during a short visit to CDO and area as my Filipina was born on Mindinao and raised BOTH there and Cebu City.
