Adventurer Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) I have more or less narrowed it down to either a Yamaha YBR 125G or a Honda TMX 155. My budget is around the 50 - 70k mark. I'm probably leaning more to the YBR though as it could be used in light off road riding which is something I enjoy plus some of the roads can be rough in my area and there are a lot of dirt tracks. Can someone confirm what the price would normally be for a 2012 black model? I have read that they can be late 70's k but there is a local dealer selling one for under 60k? Could this be a return, repossession etc? With the Honda, what I like about this bike is that it is the same one used for tricycles and I have seen tricycles moving over 12 people on runs at one time so these bikes must be super strong and reliable, It would be nice to know this bike could still be running well in 10 years +. How would the Yamaha compare in this regard? Could the Honda TMX 155 be modified to make it off road as well? OnMyWay Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 If I were buying I would get one that is trail ready like the Yamaha. You are going to have longer travel shocks for those big potholes and any off road adventures, and the frame is built differently. I love Honda products but I looked at their web page and it seems they don't have anything similar to the Yamaha in Phils. The TMX 155 does appear to be built for sidecars, but is is not very sexy! I may get a bike, dependent on where I end up living.
Adventurer Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 Yeah I have to agree that the yamaha seems to suit off road more, especially the one in my local shop that has off road tires already on it. the TMX specs are here: http://www.hondaph.c...howcase/tmx-155 I think the black one looks the better look: Yamaha YBR 125G specs: http://www.yamaha-motor.com.ph/product/ybr125g/tech-info.html

Jake Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 i dont off road much, i use this on back roads and quick trip to market , very easy on fuel What is the price range for that Yamaha YBR 125G sold in PI? And more importantly, how does one secure your motorcycle while you're shopping or leaving it outside your property? Does PI insurance cover stolen property or vandalism and how much annually? Thank you -- Jake
billten Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 (edited) IMO get a TMX, when you die they can bury you with the bike as it will last longer than you or I will ;-) Edited July 16, 2012 by billten

I'm also interested to know the price other shops are selling the latest model for? I know my local shop has one for just under 60k but it sounds too cheap so I'm worried it is a repossession bike or something? I would buy a long strong cable and lock to secure the bike and some removable parts when parked in a city etc,,... Also, I found this....Yamaha YBR 125G PromoThere is a promo on the Yamaha website that runs to August the 31st for a free Jacket, not sure if it is leather or not and it is only availble at certain shops. There is also an extended warranty promo for these shops http://www.yamaha-mo.../extramile.html unfortuantly my local shop is not on the list. I would prefer to buy close to home in case it breaks down.... Edited July 16, 2012 by Adventurer
Adventurer Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 Something I'm now a little worried about with buying a NEW bike is that I have been reading that getting the bike registered and number plates can take months but other times only days? Adventurer Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Ok the price for the Yamaha YBR 125G was actually 67,000 and not 57,000 as i thought. I went back there yesterday. But they said they have a new price after they looked at the price list so the prices must have just come down, now at 62,050 pesos. I would guess this is the retail price and maybe I could haggle it down to 60k? as for the registration, it takes 3 months or 12 weeks and I would be limited to the place I buy it from to ride in that region. I would say for that reason I would prefer to buy in Cebu city so I would be free to ride in all of Cebu I guess, even islands like Bohol?
bc_hombre Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 i thought i would check out bike prices on the forum as i want to buy one when i arrive. the yammy 125 foto posted is coincedentally the exact ride and colour i have here in nicaragua. new here is $2100 US. good to see it can be had for $1500. the roads here are brutal, but this bike is a diehard and i would buy another without question. it bottoms out with my 215 lbs when i hit a pothole doing 60 clicks, so superior shocks would be a good investment.
