for those who live in LUZON ,it will be another WET WEEK,

so be prepared

At 4:00 p.m. today, Tropical Storm "HELEN"

was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 430 km East of Casiguran, Aurora

(16.5°N 126.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 13 kph.

KAI-TAK (HELEN) becomes a Tropical Storm as it continues to move closer to Extreme Northern Luzon.

Meanwhile, KAI-TAK will enhance the Southwest Monsoon (aka. Habagat) across the Western Sections of Luzon incl. Metro Manila beginning tonight until Thursday. Mostly cloudy conditions w/ scattered to passing occasional showers, rains & thunderstorms will be expected along the abovementioned areas. The seas along the coastal areas facing the West, East and North Philippine Seas will be slight to moderate.

Residents and visitors along Extreme Northern and Northern Luzon, and Taiwan should closely monitor the progress of KAI-TAK (HELEN).

MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) - Nine areas in northwest Luzon are now under public storm warning signal number 1 amid the threat of tropical storm "Helen," state weather bureau PAGASA said Monday afternoon.

In its latest bulletin issued 5 p.m., PAGASA said the areas under signal number 1 are:

  • Quirino
  • Aurora
  • Isabela
  • Kalinga
  • Apayao
  • Cagayan
  • Babuyan islands
  • Calayan islands
  • Batanes islands

The areas are expected to experience winds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour within the next 36 hours.

The storm is expected to bring light to heavy rains over western Luzon, PAGASA said

At 4:00 PM today, tropical storm's center was estimated to be 430 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

The storm, which is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, is moving west northwest at 13 kph.

The storm is expected to be 210 km east of Tuguegarao, Cagayan by Tuesday afternoon and 80 km south-southwest of Basco, Batanes by Wednesday afternoon.

"Helen" is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility either Thursday night or Friday morning.
