Call me bubba Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 in the original article that I read . that the an"American"embassy person was at this "hearing". The point I wish to make, is that when some "locals" commit crimes or is accused the "other" countries embassy maybe alerted . SO that an "UNDESIRBALE" cant not "flee", be admitted or could have their VISA REVOKED/DENIED. in a past Topic (native w/ A family member who is a "high"elected official" in the Sebu area) A local person banished a weapon in a "threatening"manner to an american citizen . this person "caught" the attention of the US embassy. and a "well" concerned citizen(s) (cough cough). It is rumored that he his visa was "REVOKED" or was put on a "DENIAL" list. Now the story................................................................ Couple who ‘tortured, blinded’ maid no-show The couple who allegedly locked up and tortured their housemaid until she went blind did not show up at Wednesday’s preliminary investigation in the Quezon City prosecutor’s office despite receipt of a subpoena. Public Attorney’s Office chief lawyer Persida Acosta said Reynold and Analiza Marzan should be barred from leaving the country in view of the criminal complaints filed by Bonita Baran, 21. The Marzans, listed in the complaints as residents of Las Villas del Cielo on Visayas Avenue, Quezon City, were supposed to face assistant city prosecutor Ronald Torrijos at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Citing their absence, Acosta called for the immediate resolution of the complaints and the filing of cases in court. Baran sued the couple for attempted murder, physical injuries and illegal detention on Aug. 2. “The resolution could come in five to 10 days. As soon as the cases reach the court, arrest warrants could be issued against them,” the PAO chief told the Inquirer. According to Torrijos, the couple received the subpoena on Monday. Contrary to a report (not in the Inquirer), they were not among the families displaced by recent floods in the city, but they had a history of frequently changing addresses, Torrijos added, citing information coming from Acosta. Baran, who attended the proceedings, said in Filipino: “They should face the consequences of what they did. They should be jailed for making me suffer so much.” Speaking to reporters, the PAO chief said she had written Justice Secretary Leila de Lima requesting the couple’s inclusion in the Bureau of Immigration’s watchlist. Acosta also spoke of plans to inform foreign embassies about the couple's cases, adding "This would make it more difficult for them to apply for travel visas" http://newsinfo.inqu...ed-maid-no-show I commend the PAO lawyer for his actions, maybe this will be a new trend :AddEmoticons04230:
Call me bubba Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 seems this couple has serious anger management issues. NO normal person would treat someone like this. Hope. (well .we know how the justice system is) that they are Convicted and never be allowed to hurt another again 2.. just curious what their business or source of income is? when I "google map " the area(address) it appears to be a nice.clean neighborhood latest update on this story MANILA, Philippines -- Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against a Quezon City couple for allegedly abusing their maid so severely for four years she lost one eye and remains horribly scarred. Aside from the serious illegal detention case filed against Reynold and Annaliza Marzan before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, the wife is also facing two counts of attempted homicide before the RTC and another seven counts of serious physical injury before the metropolitan trial court. The Quezon City prosecutors' office has recommended no bail for the charge of serious illegal detention. However, Reynold was dropped as an accessory to the more serious charges against his wife for lack of evidence. Assistant city prosecutor Ronald Torrijos, in a six-page resolution, said not only was victim Bonito Baran’s account credible, "the scars on her head and body, the deformities on her face and her blindness in her right eye are eloquent witnesses of its veracity and speaks volume on how she was inhumanely treated." Baran lodged the complaint against the Marzans, who are residents of Las Villas del Cielo on Visayas Avenue, early this month with the help of the Public Attorney’s Office. In her complaint, Baran said the Marzans hired her in 2007. By April 2008, she said Annaliza began hurting her. The alleged abuses ranged from strangling her, burning her nose with a hot iron, and pouring cold water or the cleaning solution Clorox on her burns and wounds. Annaliza would allegedly also punch Baran's eyes, eventually blinding the maid’s right eye. And from June 2009 to May 2010, the Marzans allegedly prevented Baran from leaving their house. A year later, Annaliza allegedly locked her inside a dark toilet, only allowing her out to work or sleep in the living room. It was only in May 2012, after Baran had lost her eye, when the Marzans finally allowed her to go home to her province. The couple did not appear to submit their reply to the charges. http://www.interaksyon.com/article/41235/criminal-raps-filed-vs-couple-for-abusing-maid

They're lucky their maid didn't burn their house down. I would've.
TheMason Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 So let me get this straight....In the first article, the PAO is notifying foreign embassies about this couple's alleged crimes so it will be more difficult for them to get visas. In the second article, it comes out that the PAOs office is NOT recommending bail for the defendants. If they're not going to stand up in a Filipino court and request bail to keep the couple from absconding, they've got a lot of nerve asking the foreign embassies to do it for them. If they PAO thinks the couple is a flight risk, they should ask for bail. Otherwise, they should stop harassing the defendants and just get on with their case. Typical slimy tactics of the prosecutor's office that we see in most high-profile cases here.

Bail lets them out of jail...
