I hope and pray that she gets a minimum of 10 years in prison. Sorry, this is unforgivable. I'm ashamed to say that where I'm a Christian but I'm being honest.

When I hear of things like this, I will often think back to my early (childhood) days in Sunday School and the stories of Jesus reacting to the good and bad events each week. This is probably the basis for my thoughts on what is right and what is wrong - and forgiveness or punishment. Then again maybe I feel this way after seeing the many questionable practices throughout the world during my military days. Of all the crimes I have witnessed, when children were sold for a pittance, it was usually to someone with no regard for life and too often the beginning of a physically and mentally tortured child.

Sad, disgusting, but I remind myself that child trafficking is not something that happens only in the Philippines. Children are bought and sold almost daily in the US (just google Child Slavery USA and see what come up) and in every country in the world. In India children have their hands amputated and their eyes blinded with acid so they will make better beggars.

Of course the majority of Filipinos find also find this act disgusting. It's good to note that a Filipina took the initiative to save the child and that the police responded to her complaint. That doesn't happen everywhere. I'm happy this had a good resolution.

Just a question...., what happened to the child?

I believe I read somewhere that the father of the child came and collected her? What...., say that again!

No please don't tell me that the father of the child now has that child again!!!

Please someone tell me I am wrong!

The woman who tried to sell the child was a family friend. She was taking care of the child and took her,. The parents were not involved, according to the story. So, her going back home to her parents should be ok.

I understand that the parents may not have been involved in this, (as far as has been determined). My question is, how observant are the parents that they would allow their 2 year old daughter to be in the care of such a person!

Which then leads to...., if this is how the parents take care of the child, should they even have care and custody of children?

After all if they had not allowed a family member to take custody of their two year old child this never would have happened.

Question is on the judgement of the parents, whether they were involved or not.

Hope you understand my point.

Thanks

Papa Carl

I have to go the other way on this one. The parents probably are not to blame for what this woman did!

How many of us (who have or had children that age) have used a babysitter during the day? Dad works? Mom works or is busy too? Babysitter. And what does that babysitter do while you are gone? Unless you have spy cams set up throughout your house, you aren't going to know!

As far as I can see, the "evil one" was the little child's babysitter, was she not?

you can have some one killed for 500 pesos. You can buy a child for sex on the streets for 500 more. Human life (at least other people's life) has no value in the Philippines. The only thing that shocks me is that we don't see more of these kinds of stories.

Sadly you are so right ................ there just too many lowlife in PI even though the good ones still well outnumber the deprived people but it only takes one to have a bitter taste in the mouth.

Many years ago we attended a santacruzan held the eastend of London. Just like the ones held in PI, its was rather chaotic and busy. Anyway, one of the toddler (filipino) was lost and was crying looking for his his mum. this happened close to the filipino holding the PA system busily bringing order to the proceedings. the PA guy didnt approach the child until we had tried our best to calm the child down and he announced it over the PA about the lost child. After broadcasting, he (PA guy) just calmly continued whatever he was doing even though noone came forward for the child or anyone else bothered. My husband was really disgusted and gives the guy dirty looks, and mouthing things in everyones hearing................ It takes quite awhile before we found the rattled mother - no thanks to the PA guy!
