i am bob Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I don't want to step into the middle of a battle with you guys but I agree with you both! In the past, certain government offices were well known for a bit of corruption. And in the last few years, many changes have come about to bring good and honest services to the people. I just hope that this extends through all other departments of the government as quickly as it has for this one!
cebu rocks Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I agree bob what I am saying is do we really need to call our hosts thieving bastards ? We all know about corruption in the Phils and most times its very transparent . I do not hide my head in the sand and pretend its not here But I also do not call everyone thiefs and bastards because of a few who have turned to corruption for a income . Most filipinos are honest good people and to brand everyone thieving bastards is wrong on so many levels . If honest and accurate info is what wombat is offering, I counter what he has offering is far from both in my experiences . What does being a bastard have to do with any of this ? Except to denigrate our hosts ? I would love for him to say this to some real pinos and see how they react to being called this insult . its a good thing he calls everyone this because if he named a name he would be in court and deported ASAP
Curley Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 I have to say that reading "thieving bastards" on this forum was I feel both unpleasant and unnecessary, we all know of the corruption that's endemic here but we should all take our hat's off to and support any attempt to help to rid the country of it.
Popular Post Jollygoodfellow Posted August 26, 2012 Popular Post Posted August 26, 2012 OK My turn to chime in It is not considered politically correct to put everyone into the one basket. There are good and bad apples everywhere. The Philippines is just like anywhere else and if one thinks that corruption or thieving only exists in one part of the world then the head is buried in the sand too deep. Now we are not going to get into an argument here are we guys?
cebu rocks Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Nope I,m done its just when i see something like this posted about my adopted home is gets me upset . Theres no need for disrespecting the good people of the Phils because of a few bad apples. I will and do stick up for the Phils when people run it down i accept the country as it is ok i,m done
wombatphil Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Some kind of vendetta here?? Thought Cebu is a city with friendly expats.... :cheersty: Yes, one would hope so and I'm sorry for you that some have taken offence at what is a very common type of term in Australia, that is, using the term "bastard" as to be more descriptive, put more emphasis etc on many things, but in this case, it's theft and the unpleasant activities of so many in authority in this country. A lot of folk here are also mistaken that things are drastically or rapidly changing in this country... Think again, the 'good' advances are merely scratching the surface and there is a real lot of years and hard work to be done by the honest folk who are obviously outnumbered by the "other"...So, if folks would like to be just plain nasty here, I can do little about that from this quarter, simply because, as a typical and down to earth Aussie, I unashamedly use terms heard so often around Australia. Yes, I know I'm not in Australia now but that is totally irrelavent as most Aussies, bring Australia with them where ever they go in this world... So, hanging around a dinkum, down to earth Aussie, will find one hearing terms from time to time that you would be completely unacustomed to, such as "Thieving bastard"... "Mongrel bastard"... "Stupid Bastard" ... "Dirty Bastard" ... "Murdering bastard" ... "Rotten bastard" ... "Funny bastard" ... "Slimy bastard" ... "The biggest pack of bastards you're ever likely to see" ... The one I will refer to now is for the folks here who take offence at an Aussie using the Aussie slang, and that is... "stupid bastards". If you reckon you can shame me, insult me, belittle me with your protestations, in this case based in a naive outlook on the subject matter of this OP, you are sadly mistaken... I'm an Aussie, acting like many other Aussies (that is, naturally), and apologise not in the slightest for being an Aussie with an Aussies penchant for calling a spade a spade and using highly descriptive adjectives and other words... I really would like this silly stuff to stop now as you belittle yourselves and reduce the value of this forum with the whinging of what you know naught of. Want me to stop being a typical Aussie? no a chance. Now kindly, can we get back to the subject of the OP and get on with life and just accept that some folks around the world, view things a little differently from some of you. Thanks. and I'm sure you're good blokes under all that bluster, I know I'm a good bloke and it would be a pleasure for you to know me, so settle down, enough already... As I said before, if you can't accept another point of view, put me on IGNORE... Problem solved for goodness sakes, that's one reason the feature is there... Have a better one after this lot, coz you're not doing too well now some of you.

AMEN,talk about a sensitive bunch of pussies, i'm one who is glad to see you here and I enjoyed reading your down to earth postings on the other forum that I did not like to use for other reasons. I hope these nit pickers stop bitching and attacking people as I thought that was against the rules, not posting your opinion? and the strange thing is I'm not even that Aussie myself sine travelled and lived in other countries most of my life. i CRINGE AT BOGANS, vb DRINKERS and the like but I enjoy a good down to earth aussie like yourself. good on ya mate ;) Edited August 26, 2012 by Adventurer
Papa Carl Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Thankfully, my two contacts are still there, and still in the same jobs they were in before. Especially the one guy as he is one of the Deputy Directors and has been very helpful. Cleaning out the rest of them would be a good start. It is well known, that Immigration, like Customs has a great deal of old timers in it, who have found it hard to "upgrade" to a more internationally accepted way of doing business, and the have continued to "make money on the side" by helping out a few of their friends, and their friends, and their friends etc etc. Hope they start on the Customs next.
