Popular Post Jake Posted August 26, 2012 Popular Post Posted August 26, 2012 (edited) OK boys and girls, As one of your humble servants, please allow me to say my peace: If you read Jollygoodfellow comments (http://www.philippin...one/#entry75423), one could understand how much stress the forum owners/moderators are facing. In this latest back and forth comments, we usually end up as a lost-lost situation. Whatever we decide (and we do discuss things via backdoor) we will make some people happy and some people pissed off. As far as home of origin slang (bastard), I can readily understand where you're coming from Wombat. Jollygoodfellow (Tom) can probably drink his fare dinkum of beers. In order words, Tom is just as much as an Assie as you are. However, when conversing with other members from all flags and customs, one need to keep a more sensible approach. A good potion of sensitivity is also good medicine. We try to be diplomatic but usually it doesn't work. I would rather use basic common courtesy among matured adults. Enough said -- Jake Edited August 27, 2012 by Jake

Enough said -- Jake I have not caught up on many posts here lately and only read the last few posts in this topic now. Well said Jake. Aussie or American or French or whatever, as a forum we respect all nationality's so the language should be of universal respectful nature, the term Bastard is as far as I know is considered a swear word even in Australia. Also we have women here too who could be offended by some terms. The word Bastard should now be filtered out by the bad word filter as it not appropriate here but if we were at the pub then that might be different. The word in question will show here because I am writing it. No Mason, the last thing I want is to be like some other forums.
Brucewayne Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Some kind of vendetta here?? Thought Cebu is a city with friendly expats.... :cheersty: Yes, one would hope so and I'm sorry for you that some have taken offence at what is a very common type of term in Australia, that is, using the term "bast---" as to be more descriptive, put more emphasis etc on many things, but in this case, it's theft and the unpleasant activities of so many in authority in this country. A lot of folk here are also mistaken that things are drastically or rapidly changing in this country... Think again, the 'good' advances are merely scratching the surface and there is a real lot of years and hard work to be done by the honest folk who are obviously outnumbered by the "other"...So, if folks would like to be just plain nasty here, I can do little about that from this quarter, simply because, as a typical and down to earth Aussie, I unashamedly use terms heard so often around Australia. Yes, I know I'm not in Australia now but that is totally irrelavent as most Aussies, bring Australia with them where ever they go in this world... So, hanging around a dinkum, down to earth Aussie, will find one hearing terms from time to time that you would be completely unacustomed to, such as "Thieving bast---"... "Mongrel bast---"... "Stupid bast---" ... "Dirty bast---" ... "Murdering bast---" ... "Rotten bast---" ... "Funny bast---" ... "Slimy bast---" ... "The biggest pack of bas#r*syou're ever likely to see" ... The one I will refer to now is for the folks here who take offence at an Aussie using the Aussie slang, and that is... "stupid bast---s". If you reckon you can shame me, insult me, belittle me with your protestations, in this case based in a naive outlook on the subject matter of this OP, you are sadly mistaken... I'm an Aussie, acting like many other Aussies (that is, naturally), and apologise not in the slightest for being an Aussie with an Aussies penchant for calling a spade a spade and using highly descriptive adjectives and other words... I really would like this silly stuff to stop now as you belittle yourselves and reduce the value of this forum with the whinging of what you know naught of. Want me to stop being a typical Aussie? no a chance. Now kindly, can we get back to the subject of the OP and get on with life and just accept that some folks around the world, view things a little differently from some of you. Thanks. and I'm sure you're good blokes under all that bluster, I know I'm a good bloke and it would be a pleasure for you to know me, so settle down, enough already... As I said before, if you can't accept another point of view, put me on IGNORE... Problem solved for goodness sakes, that's one reason the feature is there... Have a better one after this lot, coz you're not doing too well now some of you. I suppose one could read carefully and see that you don't mean all Filipinos are bast---s, just those who are corrupt and ruining the name of the Philippines for their own gain. At least that is how I took it.
Mike S Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Just because a word is used in ones own country doesn't mean that it is except able to everyone else ..... there is a word (well 2 actually) Moth-- F__ker that is used by everyone now days in the US ..... kids in school .... men ... women .... and it seems to be excepted every where now ..... hell they even put it in their songs ...... so should I use it to describe things like "those rotten Moth-- Fu--ers" ..... nope not unless I was on a construction workers or sailors board ..... then I guess it would be OK ...... oh and by the way I ain't no prude ..... when I get upset I can light a fire with all kinds of colorful words ..... just there is a time and place for everything ...... IMHO ...... :cheersty: Edited August 31, 2012 by Mike S
wombatphil Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Well, excuse me for interrupting here, but I believe the topic was about Immigration sackings and suspensions due to corruption... Not how a few wimps are so outraged at an Aussie here, talking like an Aussie. You could go to any part of Australia basically, and you fella's would be laughed out of town for the wimpy words on the usuage of the word BAST@&$.. I've heard enough on this, get a life... I'm not a bad guy but some seem intent on carrying on an arguement indicating contrary, that I have no intention of being part of from here. Now kindly do everyone a favour and go back to topic, and while you're at it, take another look at the way I use the WORD in my first post. I reckon "what a huge kafuffle over nothing". And I'd never, use a term you mentioned above, as in Moth33 F#$%^&. That is over the top for any conversation in company.

Curley Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 It's a great shame that some people cannot temper their usual behaviour and language when visiting the "homes" of others.....isn't that what good manners is all about?
earthdome Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I hope wombatphil is still around these parts. I took no offense at his language or the points he made and I think he did a good job of explaining himself.
i am bob Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 In person he is probably a good guy and fun to talk with... Unfortunately, I personally do agree that his word choice was not acceptable for this forum and he could not accept that. Tom, once again I believe you did the right thing. We should all behave as if we have our girl friends, wives and children reading this forum as often as we do! And not to forget that we do have female members here as well!
Forum Support Old55 Posted August 31, 2012 Forum Support Posted August 31, 2012 Wombat, I enjoy your perspective and hope you will continue to contribute here. IMO we need expats who live in Philippines day in day out with your experience. Look at it this way, if you were in a Church or around your Mother what words would you use?
