Jack Peterson Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012  It all depends on how I am approached, we see the same ones every day, I will give a little but share it around have today, not tomorrow. The ones that get right up my nose, are those (Usually kids) that hang around the ATM Now that Pi....s me off greatly, I had a word with the Security about it but all you get is the shrug of the shoulder answer. JP :tiphat:
Fred & Mimi Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 What I found annoying were the people at the side of the road that would greet me with a pleasant "Good morning Sir" and after I returned with a pleasant greeting of my own I would be solicited for money. That happened so often that eventually I didn't respond to anyone. Unfortunately those that had only good intentions get greeted by a rude response. This happened mostly in Manila so perhaps its a big city behaviour.

Fred & Mimi Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) The ones that get right up my nose, are those (Usually kids) that hang around the ATM Now that Pi....s me off greatly Definitley something that got me riled too. I felt that I had to play body guard to my GF at the time while she withdrew some money from an outdoor ATM. One of the two boys hanging around was a least 14 or 15 YO and could have used force to steal money from her. I had my back to her facing the two loiterers and didn't take my eyes off them. They did come up and ask for money but we walked past them and said no. First time I've had to do that, Edited September 8, 2012 by Kuya Fred
Forum Support Old55 Posted September 8, 2012 Forum Support Posted September 8, 2012 I see more beggar's in Seattle when we visit than in Cebu. Almost every 7-11 has a beggar lurking near the Red Box after dark.
Okieboy Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 it depends on the person, children sometimes i give a few piso, adults usually no, especially if they speak good english, i had one guy hit me up in church at a funeral, and one woman hangs out if front of a local watering hole.
Dave Hounddriver Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I see more beggar's in Seattle when we visit than in Cebu. I was surprised on my last trip home to Edmonton to find as many beggars on the streets there as I find here. Difference is, there they want $5 and here they want 5 pesos.

I found there were many more beggers in Cebu, especielly in the corner Cabahug street and the street going to SM.
Adventurer Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 when I once lived in Cebu city for sometime while moving from one hotel to another I would gather up the hotel toiletries like shampoo, toothpaste & brushes, soap etc and I would hand them out to the beggars as I waled down the street. I would often get some surprised looks from the beggars when they look at the tooth brush etc and work out what to do with it. But they were thankful.it would help them with their hygiene to look for a job et. It was not costing me anything besides a little time, i'm sure the hotel must have wondered why I needed 2 sets of tooth brushes and shampoo etc etc day for a bald guy lol. I would also take some very hungry looking kids to the bakery and buy them food. I never gave money though.
