tiger31 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 there is no getting away from it there is an awful lot of crime here in the philippines.Ive only been here 18 months and have had 1 break in and 1 attempted break in at my little sari store .I don,t have much high value stuff in it but it seems philippino,s are willing to risk serious jail time for very little reward .my bro in law told me of a guy who got 2 years for stealing a bike !!! .but worries me is the occasional gunfire you hear ,apparently lots of illegal and home made fire arms about .criminals here tend to just shoot you even if you give them the till because as they see it no witnesses can,t send them to jail.I get the cebu news every day and murders happen every single day .ive never seen a gun back in the uk so its very scarey to be out here .which makes you think can i really retire here in the wild philippines .if its not tied down it,ll walk as they say .of course not everywhere is the same its just eye opener for me thats for sure .as for my little store the g f has set traps at the door and window opening so now anyone that tries to break in will smash a load of bottles that will make us jump out the bed very fast .

i am bob Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Same here in the Great White Nord! I can sit on my front porch and watch the ambulances go past the end of my street going to the hospital 3 blocks away. When a police car follows behind with lights flashing, it's somebody going to the hospital because of a crime. Yesterday I watched 3 go by in less than 30 minutes. It is Sunday morning and not even 9 am yet - but I just watched 2 go by again with escorts. Last year one of the local street walkers was murdered right behind my apartment in the alley. And break-ins? All the time and constantly! So I guess it doesn't matter where you live - if there is going to be crime, there will be crime!
Forum Support Old55 Posted September 9, 2012 Forum Support Posted September 9, 2012 Violent crime against Foreigners is fairly rare if they stay out of business dealings and keep a reasonably low profile. The American murdered while visiting 7-11 in Manila last week an exception. It seems most serious crime victimizing a Foreigner are committed by a Filipina wife GF or their family. Petty theft is endemic mostly opportunistic in nature. Filipinos I know never leave their home without someone watching over it.

tiger31 Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 one thing that irritates the hell out of me is GRAFFITI you spend a lot of money building a house on your lot and build a boundry wall around it ,and some punk comes along and plasters it with graffiti .there is so much of it around here it really pisses me off big time .then you gotta put broken glass along the top to stop the thieves which btw is illegal in the uk .so your nice house looks like fort knox unless you live in a sub-division its the only way you can reasonably protect your property here from vandals .ive spoken to many locals about the graffiti and they say its because of gangs around the area . FlyAway Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I posted this article a few days ago about the crime rates in Manila. http://www.philippin...-by-57-percent/ Here in the US they say statistically crime is going down. Problem with the statistic is it goes by the number of people victimized per say 100,000. So if 5 out of 100,000 are victims of crime, then what does that number become when you have a population of 100 Million? As population increases, naturally so does the overall number of victims.
