United Army Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 We are planning to go back and live in Aussie one day when we get a vsa for my wife... the crime is just one of a number of things that has made me change my long term plans to live here. it might be posible we could still live here some of the time though... Yes my thoughts also, as soon as I can get a Visa for my wife and daughter we intend to leave the Philippines for the US. Like you said "the crime is just one of a number of things that has made me change my long term plans to live here".
tiger31 Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Crime is everyware it depends on the area in the Philipines, in Davao a lot of small crimes, not as much drugs or murders as before unless your a drug dealer and the well known Davao Death Squad takes care of a lot of them, the Mayor is a big supporter of the Police, at the last festival there was a gun ban and it was strictley inforced, three of those charged were security guards, two police chiefs have been fired in the last month and replaced, i live in a family compound so if there is any crime it is one of your family, any stranger entering is run off or watched close, we have signs posted. I think the actions by our mayor in Davao City is one reason it is considered the safest city in the Philippines tell you what if the philippines had a mayor like him in every city then the philippines would be the safest place in the world.I take my hat off to the guy he may be contraversal but he gets the job done .he warns all criminals you do crime in my city you will be eliminated i love his style .A young girl 21 was stabbed 17 times last week in an alleyway 24 hours later the suspect was murdered i hope they got the right guy .swift justice daveo style who needs a jury when this guy is in charge
Adventurer Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 The problem in the Philippines is not so much worrying about crime but worrying about what you can do about it if anything does happen = ZERO!!!!!

joeatmanila Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 After 9 years living at Manila, one thing i can say, i feel more secure than most of the western world cities. Yes i have a big house, once someone tried to climb my fence to steal a blue small purse besides the window, a quick catch he thought. He never made it. I placed 8 surveillance cameras with one month in recording capability, i keep on showing to my helpers that i can find out what happened two weeks ago, so they talk it as gossip around, i place 6 motion sensors with a huge siren, from time to time i set it off during the day so they can all know it works, i got 3 dogs too which do not hesitate to bite. All in all costed me 1500$ dogs included hahahahahha, Why i placed it? Just to keep peace of mind that not any unfortunate situation will happen where a stupid thief will try to snatch a cellphone or some other item (they grab whatever they might find, they will not search much, it's just hit in and out) and i or any of my family catch him. Then he might use a knife or a gun to avoid getting caught...things can elevate pretty high in such cases. In Europe they brake in your house, beat you and tie you up, steal all they can from your house by searching thoroughly then torture you to give the pin numbers of your cards or the combination of your safe and then kill you and leave like gentlemen. I only worry for my elder parents who still live there.
Beachboy Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 It might be a place for you to check out sometime. We are usually there in the winter [u.S. winter] time and would love to show you around if you decide to check it out Thanks for the invitation, Mike. I just might be taking you up on that. I have a friend who has family in Buenavista and then there is Camiguin Is near-by which is one of my "must-see" places. It seems like a nice area. Take care. I think the actions by our mayor in Davao City is one reason it is considered the safest city in the Philippines The current Mayor can not claim any credit for Davao being widely recognized as the safest city in the country, but her father, Rodi Duterte can. His daughter Sara is simply continuing with the law and order policies her father established. However you should be aware that the infamous Ampatuan family has purchased a number of properties in the city, some of them costing in excess of 20 Million, in preparation to stand against the Dutertes at the next election. They are unlikely to succeed, of course, given the Dutertes' overwhelming popularity but the presence of one of this country's most notorious families and their armed thugs guards at election time may be a touch concerning.

I only worry for my elder parents who still live there. Your fence and all of your security equipment proves that you believe there's a high level of crime in Manila where you live. I grew up and lived in the USA most of my life and never even had a fence around my house. I live in Carcar Cebu. There are a few drug addicts on my street and occasionally someone gets shot so when the sun goes down I make sure the security gate and all doors and windows are locked and I don't go outside if its not necessary at night. A couple of days ago I took my motorbike outside to wash it. I brought the garden hose and the spay handle outside. I started to lay the spray handle down while I walked around the corner of the house to connect the hose to the faucet, but then I realized the spray handle could be gone when I got back. Do you think I'm over cautious or paranoid? You may not after you hear the next story. My neighbor who lives on the first floor made a bird feeder using a plastic bottle and filled it with red sugar water. He placed it on his window seal. A man walking by picked up the bird feeder, removed the bottle and drank all of the red water while my neighbor watched him. In my neighborhood if you leave anything of any value outside it will soon be gone. Where I lived in Alabama, USA I often left things outside for days and nothing was ever stolen. JJReyes Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 On a hillside neighborhood near our home resides a family with no locks on their doors. It's been that for more than forty years. Several times I delivered a cake baked by my wife. It was a simple matter of going into the kitchen and placing the cake in their refrigerator. The only known theft is the mysterious disappearance of some food. They concluded that some neighborhood kids were hungry and they helped themselves. The wife said, "They must have forgotten to leave a note." There is a community on the Big Island of Hawaii where all the homes also had unlocked doors. The situation changed after a newspaper printed the story.
Call me bubba Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 A man walking by picked up the bird feeder, removed the bottle and drank all of the red water while my neighbor watched him why not put some Jonestown Koolaid in it? so when this thristy person who is tresspassing decides to take a drink, he wil drink no more. Serious. that is pretty scary that some one would drink anything at all.& with the owner looking
