Emission Testing

Emission testing here didn't turn out near as bad as I thought ..... we went to Maintek on Tres de Abril off Bacalso st. ..... it was very fast and painless ..... got there about 7:45am backed the car up the ramp to the covered stall and waited ..... they started testing at 8:00am and by 8:30am I was headed home ..... there were approx 6 cars and 3-4 bikes ahead of us .... they take a picture of the tech putting the hose in your tail pipe (bet that got a rise out of Tito Jake) which is copied to your LTO form ..... everything is done out in the open with no chance that I could see to extract a bribe ..... but not sure about that as out diesel passed ..... cost p400 ..... oh and the employees wear full uniforms ...... go early they said it gets crowded around noon ...... and don't go on a Friday .... seems to be the rush day ..... :hystery: :hystery: ....... :cheersty:

Glad to hear your diesel passed but I have to tell you, mine used to pass when blowing smoke like George Burns. Luckily that is fixed now.

I am not sure what emissions they are looking for. Human trafficking in the tailpile maybe?

:hystery: :hystery: ....... geeeeeez ..... and I thought Jake would be the first to pick up on that ..... :mocking: .... really I think the reason for the picture is because so many of the so called authorized testing centers were just giving you a receipt if your car passed or not and then keeping the fee OR getting a kick back ..... this way they have a picture of your car ..... and I forgot to say your plate number (they make sure that is good and clear in the photo) so the LTO at least knows you showed up to their testing facility ...... they didn't tell me this but that is MHO ...... :tiphat: ...... :cheersty: ..... oh and I am told that some places are a bit more stricter than others ..... I did notice that they have a special machine that they use to hook up to the tester for diesels as we all know they blow a bit of smoke ...... :hystery: :hystery: ...... especially when starting ..... ....... just my contribution to lamok control ..... :attention:

No, they know your plate did. Forgot to tell you that I don't send my truck to the emission center, just my plate. They put it on a car they know will pass and it costs me an extra 100 pesos. You would think the LTO would catch on when looking at the photos but I guess all them white cars look alike to them.

I have to admit I have never been to an admission testing center. I don't see the point when I can give my plate and 100p to someone who will take care of it for me. My gas alone to go there would cost me more than that.

A car will emit a lighter-than-air pollutants that obviously stays up in the air for a long time and creates smog. Diesel engines produce the same as well as a heavier soot. The soot in many countries is ignored when testing as that is a normal by-product of a diesel engine and will fall to the ground quickly. As the newer cleaner diesels become more popular, that will probably change.
