ibemarshall Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 From PhilStar - MANILA, Philippines - “Manong, bayad,” “Pasuyo naman po,” “Para! Sa tabi na lang ho,”—we’ve all heard and said these lines at least once in our lifetimes. The jeepney won’t be the country’s most popular mode of transportation for no reason. For a stash of coins or a couple of small bills, this iconic Philippine vehicle can take you to every twist and turn capturing the essence of the country’s cities. But why do today’s jeepneys remind us of reckless moments on the road instead of thrilling trips? Despite the setback that has beleaguered the Philippine jeepney, the end of the vibrant road for the classic street icon remains infinite kilometers away. This year, Jeepney Tours, a tourism enterprise offering Daily City Tours onboard the jeepney, aims to promote its vision further by initiating a unique corporate social art drive—the Jeepney Arts Festival. An advocacy set to bring back the glory days of fun and vibrant jeepneys, the celebration pays homage to the renowned vehicle as a true Filipino icon spread through a series of events... http://www.philstar....rticleId=853730
joeatmanila Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Excellent way for the goverment to get away from their responsibility that they cannot provide decent and safe road public transportation. They turn the disgrace called jeepney to a national symbol, problem solved :)
Okieboy Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 i hate to ride jeepney very far, i don't mind in Davao city, but from Calinan to Davao about 20k sometimes were all praying, first off the tires have no tread period, second, the steering is home made, and the driver thinks he can stop on a dime, we pass on the shoulder most of he time, i have told my wife we ride the bus,it is a few piso more , but if you hit something you have a better chance of survival
