i am bob Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 It will be interesting to see how this will affect where expats will consider to live in a few years. Sure there's still the Abu Sayef (I think that's how it's spelt) but by the sounds of it, the MILF want to get rid of them too.
Jack Peterson Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 We have seen these agreements before. Having spent over 20 years, clearing up after them, does not give me much hope, that this one, will be any different
Forum Support Old55 Posted October 15, 2012 Forum Support Posted October 15, 2012 Generally speaking civilized people wish only peace, the problem is not all party's think this way. Mao Tse-Tung quote; "Talk-Talk... Fight."
Beachboy Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) I think it depends on other elements in the Phils government. The last agreement was derailed by the Supreme Court. The MILF and the Phils Army then went on a two year rampage. No one wants a repeat of that. I also think all parties understand that the Philippines is not going to develop until the situation in Mindanao is settled because so much of the wealth of the country is there. So this could be a win-win, but it's a crap shoot. (Now if they could only make it safe to walk on a Manila sidewalk and talk on your cell phone at the same time. ) Edited October 15, 2012 by Beachboy
i am bob Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 The MNLF don't want to go to war... The MI LF are trying to end theirs.... That just leaves the Abu Sayyaf and neither the MNLF or MILF even admit that they know they anymore... I wonder how much longer they will last or with new regime drop them out of existence for trying to screw up a good thing? Oh, yeah... Almost forgot... What's that other group? BILF or something? I don't think they will last too long either... Once they see the economic benefits of going with what will be available to them. Or, as one radio newscaster put it - "40 years of war and now they are going for the pension and other retirement benefits." Hey! If it keeps everybody healthy and alive, I'm all for it! That just leaves north of the Big City to worry about and the Philippine army itself... Though I have to admit that this government is doing pretty good so far at cleaning up generations of power grabs and corruption in every aspect. I can see great hope for this country and I know I will enjoy every second I can while there!
