Mike S Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Ahhhhhhh yes Dave ....... the man smell after a 3 day forced march .... when we got back the damn fatigues would literately stand up by themselves ..... I have had so much dried salt sweat between my back-pack and shirt it was actually white instead of green ....... and they forced us to take salt tablets and drink canteens of water (no bottled water bottles like they have now) ...... ahhhhhhhhh ..... whose were the days ...... :hystery: :hystery:
brock Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 The one thing I dont get is when men go for a pee, They wash their hands afterwards...To me that is wrong. You have a pee, Turn on the tap, You wash your hands then turn off the tap that you just touched before you washed ?, Then you open the door touching the handle that someone else has touched who hasnt washed their hands....So whats the point ?. I think much better to wash your hands before you touch your best friend and have a pee :)

And about washing hands first.... hmmmmmm, I do know where my best friend has been since I last saw him... can't say that for the dog so I may have to modify procedures here. :sign0095:
nor cal mike Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 guess a lot of them never spent to much time in the military (well at least as ground-pounders .... you fly boys and swabbies don't count ... ) ..... we would go for days at a time with out washing our hands ... or taking a shower ... shaving and brushing your teeth was done in your steel pot .... and I don't remember anyone getting sick from it ..... we ate c-rations from WW II and drank water that was stored in tanks that god only knows when they were cleaned last .... Thanks for the memories Mike, just the other day I made a comment about shaving and cleaning my face out of my steel pot and none of the listeners had a clue as to a steel pot.
Popular Post JJReyes Posted October 23, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 23, 2012 I returned yesterday to Honolulu after 12 days in the Philippines. Little improvement in basic food hygiene. We wanted to drink coconut water. The farm hand wiped his bolo (machete) on his dirty trousers before cutting the edge of the coconut so I could drink the juice. My estimate is the contamination was minimal at that stage. After finishing the coconut juice, he wiped an instrument made of carabao horn on his dirty trousers to sanitize it before scooping out the soft meat. This was a bit too much. Out came my emergency supply of Oreo cookies. Our host also offered overiped durian, which came with a maid to swat away over aggressive flies. The durian stank. Out came my emergency supply of Reese's peanut butter cups.

I would assume it took many generations of digestive systems to fully adapt and overcome the local cuisine of food borne bacteria. However being Filipino, my California stomach will probably go into a fit of hersey squirts after my first San Magoo. The next day, I should be good to go -- pissing against my favorite wall and shaking it vigorously....he, he.
