OnMyWay Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I am not going to open a bank account here until I get settled into a more permanent home and establish a relationship with a nearby bank. For the time being I am sharing an peso account at BPI with my girlfriend. I used Xoom to put money in it. Question: Can I write her a check from my US bank and then she can deposit it in the her (mine) peso account? No problem with it taking a long time to clear. I am just wondering if the banks will accept the check and clear it. Given that it is a $ check we would accept the bank's exchange rate to pesos. Dave Hounddriver Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I bet this is one of those cases where each bank customer is treated different depending on the relationship they have with that bank. It is possible, but go in with you gf and talk to the bank manager to establish a relationship. Then ask her/him that question.

Overcome them both and NO PROBLEM. :hystery: No joke! Seriously, go to a branch that is used to seeing foreigners to help avoid "trouble". If the branch you go to won't do it, go to another branch and ask again. :bash: Nothing to it.
OnMyWay Posted November 11, 2012 Author Posted November 11, 2012 OK, thanks for the tips! Sounds like it is doable. When the time comes I will just have to give it a try!
