Popular Post MikeeW Posted November 14, 2012 Popular Post Posted November 14, 2012 I thought some members may want to know the process for a CT scan at CHH. It is a pretty straightforward process and in many cases, a first come, first served, 24/7 process. If the CT scan uses a dye for a contrast image, then it has to be done during normal business hours when a doctor is on duty to provide care if there is a reaction to the dye. Prior to the procedure, a referral needs to be obtained from our physician. Provincial doctors can make this referral. Doesn't have to be a CHH doctor. If it is a simple CT scan, then bring the referral and have it done, day or night. If it will use the dye, you need to have a lab test done prior to the procedure which is to ensure there will be no kidney damage from processing the dye. I think it is a creatinine test. Your doctor will know this. The actual scan is quick and simple. If there is dye used, there is a half hour wait to be sure there is no reaction and you're done. Results are available in 24 hours, though it could take longer so I would not count on that. If you are being admitted to the hospital and the scan is part of the procedure, the attending physician can get preliminary data from the scan reader (the radiologist). The cost for a whole abdomen scan with contrast dye is around 18,000 pesos. Other procures may be less or more. They will tell you exactly if you call. The device at CHH is modern, though I have no real knowledge of what is the "best". The device is a 256 slice scanner which is a quantum leap from the four slice scanner at a provincial hospital. The price includes the results with detailed images and a summary in writing.
