"A new Gallup survey found that Singaporeans are the least likely in the world to report either positive or negative feelings on a daily basis, while emotions run highest among Filipinos."

What do you guys think? It seems there could be some truth to this in a mostly positive manor. Tampo aside it works out well for expats married to Filipinas.

Interesting that the most emotional were either happy Latinos or angry Muslims, while the least emotional were mostly old Soviet Bloc countries.

Interesting too is that while the Philippines was highest on the list for emotion, it doesn't indicate where they stood between positive and negative feelings. Seeing the trend of Spanish countries to be happy, I'd imagine they'd be there somewhere but we don't see that. Being the most emotional you'd expect them to have a lead in either positive or negative feelings, but maybe they have a lot of both balancing them out?

I find the poorer Filipinos to be a lot of smiles which gives the impression that they're liking life, but when in conversation they'll quickly tell you how hard their life is and how miserable it is to be hungry and unable to take care of their kids. Then when they get some money it goes straight to alcohol and cockfighting.

Hence, I can't figure out if they're here for a good time, or a long time?

I have spent a fair amount of time in a lot of poorer countries as well as those not so poor. It seems that the poorer the country, the happier overall the people are... I cannot give a definite reason for it... Maybe it's because they don't have to work themselves to death in order to keep up with the Jones? For them it's good to just work in order to feed and clothe their families I guess...

If you have any doubt that Filipinas are emotional just go to any area where a group of three or more from 14-30 year old Filipina friends who have a chance meeting and you will have doubts no more ..... the shrieking ..... screaming ..... crying .... hugging and jumping up and down will leave you spell-bound but deaf ...... I know we live next door to one and every time her friends arrive I swear to god someone is getting murdered ..... :mocking: ... :cheersty:

Answers the question "why Filipinos are loud"?

Some thoughts on the posts above:

- The over-exuberance is probably learned behavior from the local variety shows. Probably started as funny antics from a comedian and grew from there.

- The love of music and dancing from "Latin" countries helps them tap their full range of emotions.

- They are probably loud because in big families, one would need to be loud to be heard.

Yeah, I've always assumed the drama was learned and fake. However, the more I watch my wife go through the motions, the more I see little fake with it.

It's always pissed me off how emotional my wife gets when I deny her something. I figured she's just acting to cry her way into something and play me for a fool. Still, the longer I'm with her, the more I start to think her reaction is genuine.

A wice Filipina confirmed. She said almost all Filipin people take decisions some by reputation/contacts, almost all by emotions and - in best case - 2 % logic :hystery:

I would prefer some more relaxed and feelongs than common North Europeans, but MAINLY by logic. A BIT less problem skiping logic in marriages* but no logic in business will surely make unnecesary mess :(

*But I prefer a big part of logic thinking in marriages too, because when having suiting goals it's much easier to find suiting solutions if both have good logic thinking.
