Okieboy Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I have a friend from Davao City when he comes to visit he likes to get the coconut water, and has my brother in law climb and get a coconut, he has told me all kinds of stories about the medical side here is what i found. Medicine: Coconut water can be used as a plasma extender (universal donor). The water from the coconut has traditionally been used when commercial IV solutions of plasma have not been available. This is often used in third world countries and was used extensively during World War Two in the South Pacific where the coconut was readily available. There are also published findings that show coconut water being used in kidney dialysis and dissolving kidney stones.
TitP Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I have heard about this and have even seen it on TV. I wonder what else it could be good for? I know a lot of people do drink this water and I have tried it. It tastes okay. If it is good for what ails me, then maybe I should drink more of it.
Dave Hounddriver Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I drink it on occasion. Sometimes daily for a few weeks (it grows in my back yard) and some times I go off it for months. I have not noticed any overt effects one way or the other except to say too much of it makes my blood sugar rise. I would guess the rumors of its medicinal effects are greatly exaggerated but my proof is purely personal experience. In any event it has not hurt me so why not try it?
Curley Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I love it and drink it often when in the Phils. I wonder if it will dissolve my bladder stones?
OnMyWay Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I started trying it while still in the US, buying very expensive cans of it at health food stores. Now it is cheap and plentiful, and I enjoy young coconut water with the pulp quite often.
earthdome Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 My trainer at the gym (I am a skinny guy trying to build a bit of muscle and gain weight) has touted the benefits of coconut water and oil for those doing workouts.

Artists as e g Madona and Rihanna promote it so it has to be healthy :) (I believe it's healthy, but perhaps not all claimed benefits are true.)

Unfortunately in the states everything is pasteurised or tampered with in some way, at least when a boy climbs the tree and brings down a fresh coconut, cuts off the top and serves it to, you all for about 7 pesos, you KNOW it's fresh and healthy.
