The country’s new tourism slogan, “It’s more fun in the Philippines,” is gaining more positive reactions among Filipinos since its launch in January this year. It highlights what's behind the eyes of every Filipino.

Its a catchy phrase, but I have heard it used way more often in a sarcastic way which illustrates the problems rather than the enjoyment of life here. So is it a success? I am reminded of a Gas Station who used the slogan: the Town Pump which was on everyone's lips but they usually snickered at the female gas attendants when they said it. I think a good slogan has to be more than just words people remember.

yes indeed it is "More fun " I could go on & on. maybe even rant,

may expats do have a great experience , just ask .....

1 man had an issue w/.the sidewalks and the mayor of that city "just laughed him off" if he doesnt like it go back to his home country,

how about the visitor who was accused of a serious crime and after much pressure, "a mistake was made" he was released.

or JIMMY.

NOW back to good points, if look carefully yes it can be "fun" here.. happiness. new starts, new families & opportunities

make sure you look w/out ROSE colored glasses on.

That may be true but the whole point of such a slogan is to entice an international audience to consider the country as a vacation destination, yet that slogan is virtually unknown outside the Philippines. But there's little point in having catchy slogans if you then make it difficult for people to visit the country. Remember that this is the year that saw one major international airline, KLM, stop its direct service to and from Europe even though its daily flights were always fully-booked. The reason KLM gave is exactly the same that British Airways and Lufthansa gave several years ago when they too pulled-out - the iniquitous so-called "Common Carrier" tax. There's nothing "common" about it at all - that infers it's a tax levied on all airlines - as it is only levied on foreign airlines.

And it's not as if Europeans - or OFWs working in Europe - can fly on Philippine carriers as all are banned for safety reasons.

So coming up with a catchy slogan is really a minor achievement. What the Department of Tourism should be doing is lobbying for the removal of Common Carrier tax and also to get the safety inspection regimes tightened to internationally accepted standards so that the Europe-wide ban on Philippine aircraft can be lifted, thereby paving the way for increased traffic.

The Philippines seems to be slowly making progress in tourism making visas longer and less hassles renewing them.

Also recognizing that MNL is a huge pile, but they are upgrading the CEB facility. I'm unsure if the tourist police are a good thing but the idea is a good one.

There is so much that needs to be done throughout the whole country to compete with other places in SE Asia Philippines will only get a small percentage of the tourist as Thailand or even Vietnam

In my case yes the Philippines IS more fun.

I hope I'm still alive when they do it.

Is that extra fee still there?

When I checked flight prices around a year ago, it was a BIG difference in price if I SWITCH to a Philippine flight in e g HongKong,

but when I checked recently I didn't got that difference in same website making searches.

Some of us are still trying to get there!

As to those who want to leave? Then why are they still there? If I don't like it in somewhere, you can be sure as heck that I am not going to be there long! There is always another solution! :tiphat:
