The lock on the gate is not a fire exit.

Thanks for the correction Steve ..... the news on TV said that it was a fire exit and showed the lock on it ...... but you know how the news here goes ..... :cheersty:

co-worker ran from the back of the establishment yelling “fire.” Ms. Lustre said she checked the back of the hotel and saw fire near a back office,

. She said she tried to call the fire department but the hotel phone had no dial tone. She ran to a nearby community center to report the incident.

My only word for this persons actions is PURE STUPIDITY

After reading the news article by JGF now it makes more sense.

SHAME and other words( not posted as forum has rules) on the employees of this firm

shows that COMMON SENSE was no where during this incident.

Had this been in a 1st world country the employees would have done their best to awaken the Guests and had they not done so i am certain that an Arrest for "negligence" would occur.

not SORRY SIR

as i said in a previous post.

KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS thats the best you can have in your favor

when these incidents occur

I don't think anyone should jump to conclusions blaming the staff. One employee went for help, we don't know what the other did and the story says fast moving fire. Unless you were there it seems wrong to say they had no common sense.Maybe they had no choice but run for their lives? Maybe the smoke was so thick so fast all the staff could do is get out the door. Maybe there is more to the story but its written between the lines and my browser wont show it.

Even if the employees couldn't or were too afraid to run up stairs to wake up the hotel guests, were there phones in the rooms that one of the staff could have called, was there a fire alarm they could have activated and did at least one of the staff stand outside screaming and throwing rocks or anything they could get at the windows or did both of them run away? Those or questions I would like to hear answered. Anyone who is properly trained should know that the first thing you do when a fire is discovered in a building is to alert everyone in the building and then you attempt to put out the fire if possible and next you call or go for help.

I don't care how properly trained you are for an event you have never been in unless you do it day in and day out (like fireman ... cops etc) you don't know how you will react or what you will do ...... when I was an Environmental Director in various hospitals during my younger days one of my job was to teach and train all the hospital staff in fire safety and prevention ..... this was done every 3 months ..... I would then hold monthly fire drills unannounced (as according to JCHO) it was absolutely amazing what professionally trained staff will do during just a drill ... let alone the real thing .... I have seen staff shut the door to a patient room with the patient still in there to just ignoring the entire procedure ..... the worst scenario I ever had was when an assistant hospital administrator decided HE was going to conduct a fire drill ..... the ass took a bucket full of straw ... lit it and took it into the kitchen (we always used a commercial chemical smoke that was harmless) ..... when one of the cooks saw the smoke she pulled the main fire extinguishing system on the canopy and immediately filled the whole room with powder that was so thick you not only couldn't .... see you couldn't breath either ..... that was the first time I had ever actually seen one of those systems activated ... and I hope to god the last .... we almost lost two nurses who ran down the stairs to help and burst into the kitchen only to be over come by the powder .... one almost died ..... they got lost and couldn't find their way out or breath .....

So my point is I never blame anyone who finds themselves in a life and death situation ( I have been in 2 hospital related fires) ..... one never knows HOW they will react or what they will do ..... kinda like being shot at .... every time will be different and your reaction will be different ...... trust me on that .... :cheersty:
