johnb Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Just wanted to give a positive post about my experience with Dental treatment here in Cebu, I have had a nagging pain in one of my front teeth for a while and last week went to visit Citydent in E mall, I have used them on and off for the last seven years and have always been impressed. they took an X-ray of my tooth and said it was infected and past repair, so the options were root canal or extraction, I opted for extraction, I was put on a course of antibiotics for a week, the dentist then checked my charts and saw that I'm diabetic, so she was concerned about blood clotting issues after the extraction as she felt the extraction would be tricky due to the shape of the root of the tooth [ hooked]. the decision was for the senior dentist to make a decision and that I should start the antibiotics and await word from the surgery, on Friday last week we were contacted by the surgery and invited to make an appointment with the senior dentist for the extraction, so today at 9am I arrived for my appointment, we talked about the tooth and shape plus possible problems with the extraction, and about my blood sugar levels, before the decision was made to go ahead with the extraction. The extraction went well and took about 45 mins and required two stitches, absolutely no pain at any point was felt. the total cost was 900p. 300p for the x-ray and 600p for the extraction, I have an appointment next week to see how the healing is coming along and to remove the stitches. she told me they could make a false tooth if I wanted, however at this time I'm happy looking like an old pirate, we'll see how I feel in a weeks time lol. Hi Pittman, Cant really answer about UK costs as I haven't had any dental work done there for years [ I left the UK back in 1996] I cant imagine how my treatment could have been improved on , perhaps by using dissolving stitches???? As for costs for root canal etc. I will enquire about the costs for you when I go back next week, the dentist did mention the cost of a porcelain bridge or false tooth as 7000p per tooth. bootleultras Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Don't know the exact costs on the above but i can guarantee that it would've been a lot more expensive, especially if you're a UK citizen residing here and no longer paying national insurance contributions like me. Last time i was home, I went for a check up & only that 10 minutes cost me about 1400 pesos. Its refreshing to hear someone mention they were well looked after & the staff did seem well educated in what they were doing. Hope. You have no more issues John!
Popular Post Tukaram (Tim) Posted February 11, 2013 Popular Post Posted February 11, 2013 This is good to hear. I have a LOT of dental work needed and was waiting until I get over there to have it done. The cost in Texas, even with insurance, is astronomical. Our insurance is a joke. My insurance is kind of like me at work - expensive and useless! :tiphat: And I am going in 2 days!!one!!!! :540:
brock Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 In the UK, If your a pensioner or out of work it would cost you nothing....otherwise an extraction would be about 3000peso
i am bob Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Unless things have changed, dissolving stitches are not normally recommended for oral use - they dissolve too fast! I had a surgery completed a few years back where they had to cut the roof of my mouth along the gum line and then peel it back - they used a combination of stitches there only because so many were required and they didn't want to deform my mouth too much inside. The regular amount of non-dissolving stitches would have left too much scar tissue including a large ridge inside my mouth but alternating with a few dissolving stitches left an unnoticeable scar. The problem is having too many of the stitches remaining in during the healing process and for too long. This was the first time the surgeon had ever used dissolving stitches inside anyone's mouth.

Regarding dissolving stitches I did wonder if the mouth being moist would cause them to dissolve prematurely. not that I'm concerned, I am very pleased with the work, wow your surgery sounds horrendous John
earthdome Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I had my first dentist visit in the Philippines a few weeks ago for a cleaning. Cost for cleaning range from 400-650 pesos depending on how much work the dentist has to do. For me it was 650 since I both smoke and drink coffee and had some stains on the back of my teeth. She did an excellent job and it took over an hour. In the USA my dentist charges $50 USD, or 2000 pesos for a cleaning. The dentist in the Philippines did a better job cleaning than the dental assistant in the USA. My girlfriend needed some fillings. Those cost 600-900 pesos each depending on where the cavity is on the tooth. The dentist talked with me about some cosmetic dentistry to improve my smile. She recommended doing some composite or porcelain veneers on my upper front teeth. As I recall the composite veneers were around 2000 pesos each and the porcelain were 6000-9000 each.
