I diod not say I would get a replacement card in 1 day. I alrady have 2 cards for each account. 1 with me when I arrive and 1 already in Phils. What I meant was that if lost, and 'somehow' they get a pin number that works, the most they can take out is about 25,000 before the bank limits withdraws for that day. That gives me a day to cancel that card before they can start to take out more money.

My point is even though the bank will allow me to set a higher limit for cash with draws, I choose not to do so as a safety feature.

But if the card is lost / stolen or some other issue, the most I can loose in a day is 25,000p and then gives me another day to correct the issue.

I hope that it never happens to me or anyone else, but, if you do lose your foreign credit or debit card, how do you get new card in one day?

You and I may have a different problem...  Can we get more than one card?  I know in Canada, I am only entitled to one card at a time for use.  Once I end up using the second card, it makes my old card void.  Will doing internet banking activate the newer card and thus void the old card?  Will it work the same way once I am in the Philippines?  And is there a cut-off for how long the old card will work before I have to use the new card.  I called customer service at my bank about this but nobody was really quite sure - nobody has ever asked this before and there is nothing they could readily find in the system for an answer.  So I am waiting for my call back....

Well, Mr. Canadian....... I have my accounts at a well known Canadian Bank. Nooo not the Bank of Bob! Ask for an authorized user card, such as for your kids. Or in the alternative, put your brother / mother / et al on the account and get a card in their name and you choose the pin... different than the pin on your 1st card.

If you really insist, I guess you can put me on your card, but I would have to have the pin and the card.... :cheersty:

If you have a 3rd relative / friend (if needed) to add to the account to get a 3rd card, again you choose the pin, they can keep the card and if you have an issue with the 1st card and have to use your back up card, then your 3rd card can be fedexed to you in Phils in about 10 days.

None of these cards should access your 'main account'. Using the internet at a secure location, you transfer funds from your main account to the use account with the atm card. This way if you loose or are (gasp) robbed and they get the card and hold a gun to the head of your lovely Pinay and tell you they will shoot her if you do not give them the pin.....

Ah! Decisions decisions..... So little money, so many Pinays.... what to do oh whatever is a poor Canadian to do! OK OK I AM THINKING HERE! Wait an minute! I am under a lot of pressure here you know, you are holding a gun on my wife's head and telling me to make a very hard decision with out any preperation! I am doing the best I can....

Pleas... BANG! Oops too late. Itchy triger finger......

OK Bob decision has been made for you. Now your turn..... Since you know they are serious about geting that PIN, you should tell them. 5432. OK, off they go with your card and PIN number... as you watch them run off, you suddenly remember that 5432 is the PIN of your OLD card, not the current card! Why Bob, you sly Canadian fox!

In any event.... simply have a PLAN! I am sure Bob does...... I just wonder if it includeds that singel 22 yr old 40 kilo sister-in-law of his..... :nudie:

Bruce, Bruce, Bruce...

In Canada, you have two options.  You can add an Authorized User to your Credit Card account.  Or you can make your bank account a joint account.  Pension cheques, etc don't do very well on a VISA or Mastercard.  And, once you add somebody to your bank account, they have as much control over that money as you do.  Add me to your Canadian bank account.  Don't tell me the account number or even what bank it is.  Don't give me a bank card.  Within 1 week I will have that account empty.  Legally.  And the only reason I say 1 week is that it's the cold season here - i may not feel like going out for a couple days.

Now if you are using a Canadian bank that is located in the US, that is a different story.  Why?  Because they are not the same as the bank in Canada.  It's the same company but a totally different division of the company and is operating under US rules.  Kind of like having Ford in Canada and Ford in Australia... Same company but they operate differently.  Bet you won't get that free oil change every 5000 km in Australia.  You can't here either but that's besides the point...  Anyway, that's why it's hard to find a US bank in Canada - they want to operate under US rules no matter where they go and we won't let them.   When we open a bank in another country?  It's under that country's rules and regulations.

So, for your bank account (or rather mine), we are now back to one card that is valid because I am not going to add anybody else to MY account.  I have ordered a new card (takes about 10 days here in Canada) that won't be activated until the first time I use it.  And I still don't know if there is an expiry to how long I can hold that new card before it either activates automatically or falls into a fail-safe and can't be used at all.

Honestly, the bank card won't be seen much anyway.  Any money transfers I do will be done online - and after having the same number on my card for all these years, I know it by superior (brain damaged) memory.  Just enter that in, add my (online) PIN (different than my actual PIN for my physical card) and send myself some money.  Now, will I have that put into the account, delivered to me personally or held for pick-up so I can get the cheapest rates and no wait time?

Hey!  Nobody got shot in the head in my scenario...  That's not fair...  Bruce, are you busy for a moment?  Do me a favour, will you?  Just stand over there by the cantaloup...

:mocking:  :attention:

Cantaloup? Oh, that is Canadian for Cantaloupe here in the US. I never thought much about the banking rules between the main land US and it's subsidary, Canada. But I have maybe 6 accounts at that bank between businesses and personal accounts. Never had an issue except for them threatening to drop my one account because I was an agent for Western Union!

I was unaware that it would be so easy in Canada to take out money from an account that you did not know anything about but your name was on the account. How about your mother? (Mine comes up for parole ... again! in 2014.....) Or, how about the plan I use with any other users on the 2nd account and not the primary account?

Shot in the head? Cantaloup? All I see here are a few Honey Dew melons (sorry, fresh out of those not so PC watermelon jokes) not a cantaloup in sight.....

Returning to the original topic about $100 bills, I check individually any large bills in my possession even if the original source is from a bank. There are several websites explaining about the different security features for guidance. I am still waiting for the release of the new $100 bills, which will include even more security features.

I learned how to detect fake currency while in the military and kept current while working in retail management.  And the one thing all "people in the know" will tell you?  The more security features that are built in, the easier it is to pass the fake stuff...

In my own experience in the pawn business here in south Florida, I have had no real issues. Mostly I think because I am a small operation and do not look young and experienced.

In Phils, I did have 1 $100 bill rejected by the changers and I simply took it to a different changer and he took it. But since then I try to bring fresh and clean bills.

Isn't that called money laundering?

SHUUUT UUUUP! Fool! Did you not read His Jollyness's post about illegal activities on this forum! :bash: Just because a Kano's money is clean and 'may' smell like Tide is not proof the money was laundered! :mocking: Maybe the Kano just does not like too many grems on his money.
